Living with the Enemy on SBS

I just watched LIVING WITH THE ENEMY on SBS.  The story about Ben the Aussie going to live with Lidia and Ahmed the muslims. Lidia is an Aussie and was raised Catholic and converted to Islam. Ahmed was born in Saudi Arabia.

What did I learn?

- Muslim women wont shake hands with a male person their not related to. (Very rude).

- When husband and wife muslims pray in their own house, the wife has to pray behind her husband. (Women are not treated as equals even in their own house).

- Christians are not allowed to visit Mecca in Saudi Arabia. Why? Because you have to be muslim to be allowed.

- Mosques can be built all over Australia but we can't build a Church in Saudi Arabia.

- The Quran tells muslims to kill people.

- In the mosque women are behind the curtain at the back. It's their own area. Why? Because the men have to be in a different section. Why? To give women privacy. This is the reason they cited. The real reason I believe is not to cause desire in the men.

- When they went shopping they visited a halal butcher to buy lamb shoulder. Ben wasn't consulted. What if he wanted pork chops?

- They went to Bondi to do an "Aussie thing called surfing". Lidia went swimming in her full Islamic clothing then when she came out of the water she placed a towel around her depicting the Australian flag.

Re: Living with the Enemy on SBS

i am sure that it has some funny merit seeing me jumping around like mad being scared bleepless of those tiny little things.

it's very serious to me.

i love australia. i love adore the warm weather.

i would wear a bikini any day if it was warm enough (above 45 degrees, strong wind, full sun no mozzies).

i would like other people be tolerant. i mean genuinly tolerant.

as it is it's ok to wear a burqa if you are muslim....but you will get harassed if you just chose to wear it without being muslim ... by muslim men.

in my books that is not ok.

you have to decide if you grant "special rights" to some people because of their faith(1) or because everyone is free to dress as they like(2).

now if it's (1) then you have a 1st and 2nd class citizen. like in the old days when noble men ruled. there are ppl who can do ANYTHING they like without fear of percecution, and there are the "common" ppl who  have to abide by common law...

if you chose (2) then you have to be genuine about granting everyone the same rights (i know that concept is sorta hard to understand for ppl being ruled by a queen.).

same rights for everyoen. that's democracy innit?

New testament. Old testament. It matters not. Both are still available.

And so are the texts of many older and different reiligions. The old testament is pre-Christian. it just got included in our current day Bible because it suited the purposes of the then powers that be. The new testament is the Christian text and stands alone, not depending on the old testament, which, in fact, describes a different god, or at least a god which has different attributes.

Well it gives me a quiet chuckle when people like you and Julia tell me that the Old Testament is not relevent to Christians. So does that mean we should ignore the Adam and Eve story then seeing as it is in the old and the new Testament is the "stand alone" version Christians should be referencing lol?

And it gives me an even greater chuckle that you deride others for commenting on things that they are "ignorant" on yet all of my quotes on the inferiority of women came from the NEW Testament. I think nearly all of my quotes can be found in the Book of the Corinthians. The others will be in either Ephesians or Timothy.

For Julia, this is the second time you have accused the quotes I have posted as coming from the Old Testament when in fact they came from the New Testament. The last time was when I provided examples of Christian beheadings.

I suggest you all do some reading of both books and the Koran while you are at it.

Re: Living with the Enemy on SBS

OoHh you poor little one.  Those darn mozzies, they are your enemySmiley Sad

I have come up with a thought for your predicament.  We could make money here.  50-50.  My idea - you construct it.

A mesh food cover adjusted into a hat form with a 5 foot long skirt from the brim.  Smiley Wink

It could be in colours appropriate for the season or current trend,  floral infil patterned mesh with some lace for pizzazz?

It would need an opening (velcro) so that you could pay for and drink your alcohol at the local without the buzz or bites of the insect life.

Guaranteed no religious harrassment.  Might even get some  sozzled sizzled admiring looks from patrons (our future clientele).

Go make it happen.  And.....please report back with our sales results.

Re: Living with the Enemy on SBS

The link it to last night's Lateline where the interviewee is an Australian Muslim. It's a bit argumentative, but worth watching or listening to. I'd be very interested in comments.

Muslim women don't  have the right to "wear a burqa"  they simply have the freedom to wear the clothes of their choice, the same way non Muslims do.

You can wear anything you choose, too.

As for Mozzies, take vitamin C and garlic regularly

Re: Living with the Enemy on SBS

I think Emma should have stopped the interview as soon as it became obvious the man was not going to answer questions.

Made himself look to be an idiot, imo (maybe he is)  and did other Muslims a disservice.

I had to stop watching as it was so annoying BUT I don't think Emma did a good job of it either.

Re: Living with the Enemy on SBS

I think he made a few relevant points, Az, but as you say, they got lost in his performance. No, Emma didn't handle it well ... and that was interesting, in a way.

Re: Living with the Enemy on SBS

I agree he had relevant points and will try and watch it again later, I find it difficult to listen to arguing, lol.

I began to wonder if Emma had asked him there to talk about a particular thing and asked different questions?
