Look Wut I Got! (Scroller and Photo)

This is Screech.

For the last couple of months we've had a very diligent Tawny Frogmouth pair sitting on their nest close to the house.  We've watched with anticipation and were finally rewarded by seeing a little bundle of fluff popping his head out of the nest.

Then last weekend - DRAMA - I walked outside to see a massive monitor making his way towards the Tawny tree.  Screamed at hubby to come and help, we tried to avert disaster, but the monitor was way too fast for us and scaled the tree.

Mumma Tawny was very panicked, as the monitor came closer to the nest she flew off into a nearby tree.  She gave me a look of absolute desperation HELP ME! (yes, she did!) but the nest/monitor were way too high for us to do anything.  Hubby tried to throw things at the monitor, but I stopped him as the monitor's life is no less precious than the chicks - I didn't want to see the monitor get toppled out of the tree and hurt or killed.  Plus hubby damn near hit my car with a rock. ;\

I put some eggs around the base of the tree so the monitor could see them, in a vain attempt to lure him away from the chick.  We had to go out briefly, so wished the Tawnys good luck.  Alas, when we came back, the nest was empty :_|

Went about our afternoon chores when suddenly I spotted baby Tawny!  Sitting on the ground next to the tractor.  We dropped everything, made him a makeshift nest and put it up in the tree, then caught him and put him in the nest.  We saw Mumma and Pappa Tawny watching nearby.

Cut down a long story, Bubba kept jumping out of his nest over the next three days and Mumma and Pappa abandoned him, so the decision was made to bring him inside to keep him safe from both the monitors and our dogs. (our four young ones would kill him).

He will be released as soon as he can fly properly and learn to catch his own bugs (I am catching them for him at the moment).  He's all puffed up and hating me in the photo, that's a good thing, we don't want him imprinting on us. He's feeding really well though (I hate you, I hate you, yum, yum, more please, I still hate you).

Re: Look Wut I Got! (Scroller and Photo)

Thanks Flashie, Pimpy & Annie :-x

Pimpy, he's my very favouritest avatar too... He's a beautiful boy inside and out, not a mean bone in his body.

Flashie, we've thought long and hard about this time - he's got hip dysplasia and we knew the time would be coming sooner rather than later.

Originally we did want the vet to come to us (and he would), but our other dogs would cause so much chaos and noise that it would be far from the calm and peaceful passing we want. Tango is the self-appointed guard dog, so he would be trying to get in on the action too even though he is not well. I wish we were able to just go and get the injection from the vet and do it ourselves in calm and peace (I am capable of that), but unfortunately it is not possible, which I of course fully understand.

Tango loves the car, so he will have a last car ride and the vet will come out to the car. Tango and I spent the night cuddled up in bed, just him and I (the other dogs were shut in another room, much to their displeasure). It will be the same tonight, and when hubby gets home on Saturday, the three of us will spend a final night together with our special boy.

Good morning all ....  :-x

Oh no, Tango ....  :_|  What can I say, other than I am so very glad that Tango has had so much love and happiness, what more could a dog ask for have lived in sheer joy like that?

Agree with Flashie, if you can get the Vet to you, it might help tremendously.

It's very sad, but there will be so many fabulous memories of Tango, and that is what is so important for you as you both let him go for his sake ....  :-x

Monsters, I grieve with you and understand. My darling doggie died 3 years ago. She was 14 years old. Had a brain tumour. Of course, everyone said I was so lucky to have her that long and her passing was quick. Her brain just shut down and she knew nothing about what was happening. I know I was so blessed to have her that long but somehow that knowledge didn't and still doesn't help me that much. Only eternity would have been long enough to have her and I know you feel the same about your boy.  My Molly was the same as your Tango, not a mean bone in her. I am crying as I type this - 3 years later. I don't cry every day only at times like this. It's like a part of my life went with her - she grew up with my 2 daughters who are now adults. Just look after yourself and try to get more rest perhaps if there are a lot of other things going on in your life at the same time.

Monsters I'm so sorry to read about your beloved Tango doggie. You envelope all your creatures, wild and domestic, with love and compassion. How lucky you are :-x

Thank you Tas, Sprinkles and Ms. Mioux for your very kind thoughts. So sorry about your girl, Sprinkles, it really hurts, doesn't it?

Tango has been comfortable today, and even walked around a little bit, but it is killing me counting down the hours. I just can't help myself, at certain times of the day I will stop and think "Tango only has xx hours left to live".  I have to admit I have been hoping for some kind of miracle, but I know in my heart and my head it is time. It is so very hard to let go.

As far as my boy Screechy goes, well, he doesn't. Go, that is. He has spent all week (can't remember what day I released him, the past couple of weeks have just been a mush) sitting either in the tree in the chook yard, or up on the trellis just beside it.  Silly bugger has still got me feeding him (actually I'm probably the silly bugger), I have to climb up on a ladder and he walks across the trellis to get his dinner. Only feeding him little bits, hoping that will leave him hungry enough to start hunting out his own food.

Sprinklespower ....  :_|  Molly too, was so lucky to have you;   all that attention, nurturing, kindness and love shared between you ... it will never completely leave you, but then you don't want what she wasto leave you anyway, she was her gift to you, and you were her gift to her .....  :-x   Wrap yourself in those memories, and the spirit as living things you gave to each other need never disappear ...  :-x

Thanks everyone :-x

All arrangements now in place, just went up to the vet and paid so I don't have to deal with it tomorrow, also got some very strong tranquilisers so our boy can be just about asleep before we leave.

So final and I feel so cold and clinical making all these arrangements ahead of time, have been hoping for a miracle, but none has come. Husband is on the way home, thank goodness, so we will have a final night together with our boy tonight.

I bought him a rotisserie chicken on the way home (normally a favourite), but he wasn't really interested and only ate a little bit to be polite.

I just don't want to say goodbye :_|
