Unfortunately the NDIS scheme is in absolute chaos.

All of the not for profit services that people with disabilities could access for free have now become fee for service providers where every phone call, interview and offer of assistance comes with a fee, billed to the NDIS. The bills are padded out with lots of extra charges because " the government " will just pay it. The NDIS does not have staff to verify accounts are fair or accurate, so the scheme is just being milked for all it is worth.

And if you have not completed the application process and been accepted by the NDIS you will be lucky if those organisations even take your phone call.

As Davids article in the link indicated, people with disabilities are not offered ANY ASSISTANCE with their application forms and the process is daunting, complex and VERY time consuming, often taking many months to work through. Many people with disabilities simply don't have the understanding or mental and physical ability to wade through the process.

The missus is blind, but very savvy with working within these types of systems. She is an adviser to our local city council on disability issues and has worked with state based disability service providers to develop and assess new technologies. She knows her away around bureaucracy.

It took her six months to work through the application process. She now works with a small volunteer organisation to assist other people with disabilities to work through the application process. Some of the stories she is coming home with are very distressing.

One client is a thirty year old male who is wheelchair bound and can barely communicate. All of the previous services he once used have been privatised and as he has not yet completed his applications for the NDIS, he has no funding to access those services. He is on his own, with his ageing parents trying to provide full time care without most of the professional support they received six months ago.

Unfortunately the whole thing has become another massive Labor F*#k - up. ( sorry for the language, but I am genuinely angry about this one ). With great media announcements, lots of vote winning claims and no money in the budget to support it . Add to this little planning, no forsight to the unintended problems it would cause, organisations taking advantage of another new, giant government gravy train with no prudential controls and no understanding of how the existing system was working and you have a mess of monumental proportions.

And the people who are suffering, AND I MEAN REALLY SUFFERING !!!! are those in the community who most need our support and understanding.

Actually it has become another typical LNP  F*#k - up (just like the NBN). They inititally supported it ( to get votes before an election) and then did everything they could to dismantle or stuff it up (just like the NBN).

Once again your very conservative political beliefs and slogans are driving your comments eg its all Labor fault etc etc, with the usual LNP standard comments

i give you kudos for all but the 'blame it all on labor' bit

the libs have done with this the same as they did with the NBN, sliced and diced it into a cheap mess that just dont do what it was intended to do.

c,mon, the libs have been in power long enuff for the 'it was labors fault' line to stop.

Given that theLibs have been in gov for the past 5 yrs, how is it a Labor stuff up? Surely during this time the Libs "could" have done "something" to sort out /deal with  the many probs?  or is it simply MORE Labor bashing?

The problem with both the NBN, Gonski and the NDIS is that Labor introduced the grandiose schemes into legislation , but failed on the detail of how they would actually work, failed on planning an implementation strategy and also failed to make adequate funding arrangements to actually pay for the implementation of the schemes.

Just another example of the Liberals coming to power and having to clean up another huge Labor legacy mess.

Unfortunately the fatal flaw with Labor is not its social policies ( The NDIS is a great idea in principle ) , it is the fact that the party is full of union hacks. These people spend their whole working lives opposing business strategy and when they come to government, they simply have no idea how to actually get a project up and running. When they try to actually introduce something, even if its a good idea, they just make a mess of it. Classic examples are the School Halls fiasco and Pink Batts tradgedy that had to be aborted urgently after it killed a few young guys.

Despite what some think, I,m not opposed to many of Labors ideas and visions, I just think the party is grossly incompetant and have proved time and again, that they simply cant get their ideas up and running.

The problem is very simple. Labor introduce hugely expensive, grand plans into legislation when in government, BUT FAIL TO PROVIDE FUNDING in forward estimates to actually pay for them. These schemes take years to roll out and implement, BUT THERES NO MONEY TO PAY FOR IT AND NO IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY.  Surely thats not too difficult to understand. ( even for rusted on Labor voters .........Smiley Wink  )

And you "think' the Libs are able to do better? After 5 lonnng yrs of a Lib goverment,I'm STILL waiting to see them actually do something that actually benefits Australia and all Australians   .... all I have seen, is a bunch on bumbling pollies, who haven't a clue how to run a chook raffle much less govern a country    ....
