Manuka honey stoush anything but sweet between Australia and New Zealand

To throw into the argument,
it would be like us calling wine 'barossa wine'
its nothing like that,
Barossa is a place, barossa wines come from the barossa district.
manuka is just a name, in this case a name of a plant growing all over the place, new zealand yes, australia yes and who knows how many other places.
i believe (but i'm no expert) champagne was the same, a place not a plant the drink came from.
this is greed, simple, new zealand honey makers want the name to be on their honey only, for financial gain.
so shall we go into the history books and find the term All Blacks being used in australia way befor new zealand took it as the name for their rugby team.
place a patent on it and tell new zealand, haha, find a new name for your team?
its honey called manuka honey after the plant the bees take the nectar from, thats all.

I seem to remember years ago, Manuka honey was found to contain medicinial healing properties, and the only place that produced it was NZ.
It was horribly expensive at that time.
So I guess the Aussies did jump on the band wagon.
Personally, as an eating honey - I hate it.

Manuka plants are native to NZ and South Eastern Australia.
So as the honey is named after the plant, then it seems to me that NZ can't claim to have a monopoly on the name or the product.
I sometimes buy honey from a place called Peninsula Honey here in Vic. They had a chart up to show how manuka honey is graded. I forget the details but it went on % & the price varied accordingly.
We have every right to call honey manuka honey if it is coming from manuka plants.
