Anyone watching it ?

 

I have just started so can someone tell me how many at the start and how many have been eliminated.

oh tippy, pmsl at 'kitty sullivan'- that is spot on! The type that wears short white socks turned over with the lace frill on the top...urghh.Woman LOL

 

Anyhoo..very interesting reading about Mr Tippy- thanks for sharing..I dont get the meat without bones- and the irony is that hes from the country!! and has lived on farms..every now and then, I will bring that up..I dont get that he will eat smoked salmon and prawns but nothing else from the sea? but I dont complain, as he cleans the prawns..I cook them.

Our son eats most vegetables, in soups, pastas, or if they are baked or fried, but doesnt like salad..no allergies, which Im grateful for..has more of a savoury tooth, so not really into desserts..when dinner was served tonight, and he tasted the flatbreads that Id stuffed with potato, he did say 'Im very spoilt, arent I?' Just so long as he knows it!! lol

 

Tonights show was entertaining- poor old Harry taking on Jimmys Dimmys..son, what are you thinking?

and Charlie- Im sorry but the wheels look like they are falling off..Those rissoles looked quite unappealing..I thought he could have baked the ricotta and made some sort of dessert..fingers crossed, and he gets his confidence back, and byebye, Elise goes home..

I really liked the look of Trents dish, with the spring rolls and jam- well done to him.

 

Look forward to the dessert challenge tomorrow night- that guest chef is awesomely creative, and scary..mwahahaha

That guest chef looks like George's long lost sister.  Is she related?

Spot on with the Kitty Sullivan,  lol.   And Zoe is driving me nuts.

 

 

Speaking of allergies.  My youngest grandson is allergic to all things

in the apple family.   Now that covers a lot of ground,  you'd be surprised.

 

We found out by good old grandma (me) feeding him grated apple when he was a baby,

and ended up putting him in hospital.   They said apple allergy, not apple family.

 

So good old grandma started feeding him pear!     Back in hospital.  Poor little kid.

 

So now it's easier to tell people what he can eat, rather than what he can't.

 

He had to be separated from the other kids at kinder at snack time

And he has to be careful at school.  If a kid eating an apple touches him,

he breaks out in hives and gets swollen black eyes.  Thankfully, not anaphylactic,

but scary just the same.

 

He can eat citrus, melons and grapes and some berries.  

His 'apple' for school is a cucumber.  He devours them with gusto

My 2 young cousins, 17 and 13 have a lot of food intolerances. The 13yo is the worst, there is very little she can eat (although she can eat more now than she used to be able to). My aunt said it's much easier to say what they can eat than what they can't. She has to cook everything from scratch and can only use certain brands. She has to buy rice from somewhere in SA because the kids react to every other brand (and here I was thinking rice was rice right?)

 

Up until she was about 8, the now 13yo could eat this one brand of rice, a very small amount of boiled lamb (I'm talking a couple of teaspoons), mung bean noodles (glass noodles), a couple of teaspoons of green beans, one particular variety of pear and delicious apples with the skin removed. Anything else would land her in hospital.

 

Interestingly, neither kid has any allergies, they are all severe intolerances. When the 13yo was a baby, she was fully breast fed. My aunt had enough milk to feed 20 kids, yet by 5 months she had only gained around 500g. She kept going to the doctor saying something was wrong, yet no-one would listen. The baby was dying in front of her eyes and they ended up calling DOCS on her. One night the baby was so poor that she took her to the ED at the hospital.

 

Several doctors saw her and drew their own conclusions (neglect). Then a medical student came in and said "I know exactly what's wrong with this baby and this is what you need to do". The reason he knew was because his sister was exactly the same. She had to go on a special formula that was $200 a tin on prescription (which thanks to the government authority number cost $20 a tin).

 

Introducing solids was a nightmare. Every time she tried something, she'd end up screaming for days. I ended up finding her a food intolerance group who made things a bit easier for her and she found 3 things she could eat. She stayed on that formula until she was 9. It was a complete meal in a can, so if she couldn't eat any food at all, she could have lived quite easily on that. Due to the lack of what she can eat now, she has to be on supplements (only 1 brand!). She may improve on what she can eat, but due to the lack of food growing up, she doesn't like anything.

 

Kids parties were always a nightmare. She couldn't eat anything there. If the party was at McDonalds, my aunt would precook the "chicken" nuggets and take them with her. McDonalds were more than happy to put them in their nugget boxes so she didn't look out of place. Her first 3 birthday cakes were cardboard, which we'd pretent to eat. It was then discovered she could eat gluten free, egg free, dairy free, pretty much everything free cake in small amounts. Basically they were buckwheat, chickpeas and something else added, which ended up looking like a cake!

 

I don't know how I'd get on with raising these 2 girls, or a child with multiple allergies. It's hard enough having a fussy husband, without being restricted on absolutely everything!

WOW. That must have been really difficult for the family..Im also imagining all the feedback they must have received..only some well meaning and educated..But, it was nce to read that outsiders were also helpful.. and gold star to the medical student who had the right idea and the right solution. I hope this person has gone onto great things. We need more like him in the world!

 

Watching MC, with the constant talk of 'food is my passion' etc, it must be very hard for some people to even enjoy eating. 

I know what its like to have an allergy- I had severe excema when I was young, but I did grow out of it eventually..Not really food sensitive, skin sensitive..I have a friend who makes a fuss and swears -'Im lactose intolerant!'demanding almond milk for her coffee..'you should stock it!' if only those same baristas knew the amount of ice cream and cakes she puts away..

to not like the flavour of something is one thing, but for the same food to make you ill, or is life threatening..how awful..

 

Ive been thinking how many dishes have the capsicum family in them..Indian, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, Hungarian, even Turkish, with their use of paprika..must be pretty difficult for you tippy.Heart

Ah, but is it the taste or the texture of capsicum?

 

Daughter will devour anything Italian, but gags if there's fresh tomato

I think there's a whole generation that won't eat fresh tomatoes, in my experience anyway

 

I can't eat a salad that has had olives in it.  Everything in it tastes of olives

Definitely the taste. When I was 18 I had to move from where I was living, so my boyfriends parents asked me if I would like to move in there (in the spare room of course!). I accepted their offer. She was a great cook but put capsicum in everything. She thought it was just that I could see it that I didn't like it. She made rissoles one night, using 1.5kg mince. She put in 1tsp of finely grated capsicum in the mix. Finely grated through the parmesan cheese grater.

 

I love rissoles, so was eager to tuck in. Took one mouthful and nearly started to gag. I swallowed what was in my mouth (without any further chewing), looked up at her and asked "did you put capsicum in these?". She said no. I said it sure tasted like it and I'm so sorry, but I can't eat them. She then fessed up and apologised profusely, explaining that she thought it was only because I could see it. She never put it in any of my food again. If she wanted to use it, like in a salad, she'd put some salad aside for me, then drop some in the rest.

 

She used to like putting it in salmon rissoles too, so she'd form some up for me, then mix it through the rest for everyone else. As I said, I had not liking it because it really looks lovely.

 

I never used to like olives, or rockmelon. I changed with rockmelon one Sunday when I went to work with a massive hangover. I had the dry horrors and I was starving. One of my colleagues said she had a rockmelon in the fridge if I wanted to have some. I figured I had nothing to lose, it couldn't make me feel any worse than I already did, so I had some. It went down a treat and tasted so good! I've liked it ever since.

 

Olives I had one night at a party when I was a bit sozzled. I was feeling peckish and that's all that was left of the nibblies. So, I ate them. They didn't taste as disgusting as they always did in the past. I was well into my 20's by then so I figured my tastes must have changed a bit.

 

I remembered something else I don't like. Grapefruit. Although, it's been a long time since I tasted one. I don't recall them making me want to throw up like capsicum and coffee, I just didn't like the taste. I could probably force it in if it was in a fruit salad.

If I order any of the above foods I always ask them not to put it in. They always oblige. Interestingly, I'll eat Paprika! Go figure.

 

I get annoyed when someone says they have lactose intolerace, but it's purely because they don't like milk. We have a friend that says he's gluten intolerant. He's not, he's just been reading too many things online about how "bad" gluten is. Sometimes he'll say he's Coeliac. Ummm, no, I don't buy it. I know a few people with that and he doesn't look anything resembling someone with it, never has. Most Coeliacs look like a walking corpse for ages before they are diagnosed, he's always looked healthy.
