my car VZ Commodore has started with a click-click-click when I try to start it.... it does it 2 or 3 times ... eventually starts after I bless it a few times .... but I'm worried that eventually it won't ..... so, starter motor? solenoid?
This had to happen when every mechanic for miles around is on 2-weeks holiday.

i have had this a few times with cars and uasally, it's a bad connection in the battery cable, cylonoid, or starter, in that order. most of my cars have been manual, so starting it if the battery or starter don't work was just a matter of getting a push, or even pull in reverse depending on the downhill part of a road or parking lot. that and less chance of a fluid leak is why i don't like auto

Don't pay $650 - $900 for a new BCM and new / reprogrammed keys from Holden dealer when you only need to spend a fraction of the
cost!
The faulty, sticking relay needs to be de-soldered from a double-sided printed circuit board inside the BCM and this new relay needs to
be soldered in its place.
You are about 6-8 months too late with that advice - unfortunately. I got a new BCM and key back then.

in the 8 yrs or so of the ownership of my car
the first problem i had - turn the key.. i got nothing [the dash lights would come on] sometimes it would start.. other times it wouldn't..... i figured it was the ignition saftey switch next to the auto gear shifter because i'd put pressure on the shifter in park and it would start *sometimes*. it's just a safety precaution device so you can't start it in gear, they can fail on you and leave you stranded.
replaced the part from one of my wrecks it wasn't that difficult to do and went fine untill 12 months later i had to change it again from another one of my wrecks & the battery died, charged it up and noticed a power surge, engine and lights. dropped it off to a swedish specialist, he said the alternator is kaput. my spares wasn't compatible coz volvo changes things each year and i was lucky he had a wreck in the back of his workshop of the same year. he installed it...i got out of it faily cheap. a couple of years later i need to relpace the starter motor from one of my wrecks. she starts so easily and quick now, the car just gets better.
so it could be a number of things, in the alternator, starter, saftey ignition switch

and i hadn't had an issue with the ignition safety switch since, i wonder if that faulty alternator was the culprit?...hmmm

I know what you mean about Volvos...........I got a call one year, the day before Christmas that a car was stranded near the Siskiyou Summit on I-5. Headed up there with the wrecker, in the meantime the authorities had initiated a "chains only" requirement because it was snowing like the devil. Troopers asked if I had chains with me, and then allowed me to head up.......it was surreal, as if I was the first person ever to come this way. The freeway was a smooth white blanket, no tracks or anything.
Anyway, it was an early 80's Volvo station wagon full of Japanese, an exchange professor to the U of O and his family. I backed up to the vehicle, installed the chains on the outer wheels of my dualies, and hooked up. Returned to the station, and figured out that the alternator was toast.........bad news was that it was a Marchal. Where in the hinterlands of Oregon was I going to come up with a Marchal alternator. I made arrangements for the family to return home to Eugene, and started poring over my manuals. I found out that a Bosch alternator could be made to work, so I obtained one, and made it fit. The day after Christmas, one of the kids came back down and picked up the car.
I got a nice letter from the University, they also forwarded a letter from the Japanese consulate........

no, not found the fault - it seems to have healed itself.
I have her booked in for a service tomorrow - air conditioning, cooling system, auto-box AND the mystery starting problem.
I have been reading the EH rebuild thread - got me thinking about my old HR. Has anyone on here done an HR rebuild.
