FINANCE Minister Mathias Cormann has rejected opposition claims the proposed sale of Medibank Private would increase the budget deficit and drive up premiums, accusing the former Labor government of unsustainably “raiding” the insurer to boost its own revenue.
Opposition finance spokesman Tony Burke has warned the government will surrender dividends of up to $500 million by selling the company, adding to government deficits over the long term.
However Senator Cormann today said the comments showed why the Rudd and Gillard governments “made such a mess of the budget”.
“The proposition that somehow the commonwealth would be able to draw half a billion dollars in dividends on a yearly basis is just a ridiculous proposition,” Senator Cormann told ABC Radio.
“(Labor) raided Medibank’s capital reserves — that is not sustainable over time.”

Yes I have, icy 🙂
So which government has the highest lie score?
Ok so you're busting for me to say I don't know. So. I don't know. But I'm sure you do. So trot it out and get it off your chest, go on.
But then, Does it really even matter whether 26 against 11 (hypothetical)?
What you'll establish is that governments of both parties lie to the Aussie voters, have lied and whitewashed the facts for years and will continue to do so as long as the hapless Aussie voter continues to give them carte blanche to do so.
Voters accept lies, knowing it's endemic to politics. Accepted Ms Gillard's backflip on the Carbon Tax. Accepted Ms Gillard knowing she knifed her boss in the back to get the job. Went along with the bumbling of the pink batts debacle and the money wasted on the GFC stimulus on the schools. The failure to find any sort of acceptable solution to the people smuggler's boat invasion. Finally had enough when Rudd knifed her in the back to get his old job back and expected the Aussie voter to stomach the lies and deception and the sheer ridiculousness of a party that had obviously lost it's way.
And that, my friend, is why Mr Abbott was voted in. He promised to stop the boats. And he did. While he's here he'll ram some of the policies through that he bargained with the kingmakers to do to get the job.
So if you're furious that you're stuck with him for the next 3.5 years or so, you only have your beloved Labor Party to blame.

"Look '' they threw children off the boat '' is going to take some beating. ."
You mean like "There will be no carbon tax under a government I lead" ?
However IF has summed things up above well. My interpretation is that the pinks/blues minders hand feed a couple of mindless flocks who always bleat the same way, and tune, gimme, gimme, and whilst always wanting greener pastures are not really prepared to climb the hill to get some on the other side of it.

I'm not furious. Baffled would be a better choice of word. For example, baffled why selling of Medicare is a priority and how will it impact on our future earnings. Or will it only benefit in the short term?
and I wasn't expecting to admit you don't know. I thought you were interested in politics? If so, you'd easily be able to tally the score.
People may have voted to "stop the boat" but I doubt more than 1.5% would vote for stopping them by murder, psychological experiment and indefinite detention. There will always be that 1.5% unfortunately.
I absolutely do not accept that oliticians need to lie. I do understand that politicians may need to change their minds about policy in response to various factors, but IMO outright lies are absolutely unacceptable on either side of politics. Especially when the lies are deliberate to gain votes or political gain in some way.
Ok. I'm interested in politics but not to the point of obsession.

That's good. However, even watching the evening news once a day, any channel, would enable a basic tally.
It doesn't warrant that much attention to detail, Karen. But you stick with it by all means if it gives you something to do.
