Medicare levy hike to pay for the NDIS :(

THE average worker could be hit with an increased Medicare levy of about $300 a year in next month's budget to help pay for the national disability insurance scheme.

The federal government is seriously considering increasing the Medicare levy from 1.5 to 2 per cent after Prime Minister Julia Gillard warned "urgent and grave" decisions were needed to cope with a $12 billion hit to tax revenue.

The Daily Telegraph understands while the higher Medicare levy would be presented as a reasonable form of "insurance" to protect families from the huge costs of coping with a disability, no final decision has been made whether to include it in the May 14 budget.

Yes Nero, another broken promise. Fortunately if the MC levy is increased the labor supporters will not be able to scream " making the poorer pay more" because it is based on a persons earnings and everyone will pay.

Just how many promises can this PM break before people realise how incompetent she and her government is and only made those promises to get into government.

Almost like a dream she must have had to be PM and the cost to anyone else was a secondary consideration, win at all costs and push aside anyone who gets in her way.

Nero - if she ends up bankrupting this country can we start a class action against her and her government for misappropriation of funds or a similar action?

I do notice with interest that the dedicated hard core labor support group on here has been very quiet over this massive lie and budget blow out by their beloved PM and party. 

Sadly she and her party of spend spend spend will leave this country near bankrupt  and she has no care at all as to what its going to do to the Australian people.

Gillard and Labor are trashing all they can before they get booted out of office.

An 0.5 per cent increase in the Medicare levy would raise an extra $3.2 billion a year for the Budget.

It would mean someone earning $50,000 would pay about $250 a year more, for someone on $75,000 it would be a $375 hike, while the slug would be $500 extra for someone on $100,000.

Those earning $150,000 would be hit with an extra $750 levy and someone on $200,000 would pay $1000 more.

You know what is even sadder??? 

NDIS will not be available to people over 65 I believe.... 

Yet it is going to be many older people that have worked hard for a good income and are in the final years of working that will be paying this levy... yet if they become disabled when they get older they will get no benefit... and many people do become disabled from strokes and heart attacks... 

Younger people on lower incomes won't pay it... they don't even pay tax... yet if they become disabled they will be eligible for the rest of their lives. 

Once again it will be the wealthy that pay yet don't benefit.

Make no mistake. This disgraced lying woman will stop at nothing to get the NDIS & Gonski through even though there is NO money for it.

Her & Swann have squandered it all on rubbish & the massive border control failure that is costing billions & will do so for years to come.

She doesn''t give a rats about disabled people or education, all she cares about is "her legacy".

She'll stop at nothing, everyone will pay for her so called "legacy" anything to get it through, no wallet she won't raid.

As for the sick making speeches she's now taken to, I was laughing at the "John" analogy, the talking slower & more measured, who is she talking to??? dim wits?

Every day she slips deeper into the ridiculous, the pit of obscurity she's heading for is getting as deep as the black hole she has created.

The trouble with socialists is they eventually run out of other peoples money.

The disdain Swan is held in is unmentionable & he will be gone after Sept,  he'll get his golden pension for life leaving behind a wasteland of an economy, like a cockroach after a nuclear explosion.

There is no hole big enough or deep enough for this mob to march into, led by the red queen, they'll languish in ignominy, wail & cry, tear each other apart & then begin to eat their own because it all ended so badly for them.

Please show me proof of myself or any other person on this forum that have ever said that it is a waste????? 

Plenty of us have asked "can we afford it right now"? Some have questioned if more money will improve education.... 

not one person has said funding  education or helping disabled people is a waste... ever...
