THE average worker could be hit with an increased Medicare levy of about $300 a year in next month's budget to help pay for the national disability insurance scheme.
The federal government is seriously considering increasing the Medicare levy from 1.5 to 2 per cent after Prime Minister Julia Gillard warned "urgent and grave" decisions were needed to cope with a $12 billion hit to tax revenue.
The Daily Telegraph understands while the higher Medicare levy would be presented as a reasonable form of "insurance" to protect families from the huge costs of coping with a disability, no final decision has been made whether to include it in the May 14 budget.
Ms Gillard will face attacks that it is another broken promise after she last year ruled out increasing the Medicare levy to pay for DisabilityCare

I would like the PM to come clean before the budget on the 14th May and TA to put forward their plans and let all Australians know what each party plan is.
1) What difference is 11 days going to make?
2) As I have said before. It is highly unlikely now that Tony Abbott intends to outline in detail ANY policies. He believes (probably correctly) that the electorate is so naive and gullible it will vote for him without having any real idea what he stands for.

He would be silly as would all politicians to assume the electorate is gullible and naïve but I agree he knows he has a 99% chance of Libs winning the next election and I don't think it is because he or his policies may be better or not, it's because the present PM will lose the election because of her broken promises and lies, people don't like lies and you will pay for it if you keep doing it as she has done.

Ahum, which government has subsidised the car industry, decided to go ahead and buy new planes and subs knowing there is no money in the coffers, guess who ?
I also agree we desperately need the NDIS and it is so important to so many people who care for or are suffering a disability.
It will be interesting to see who is and who is not covered by this scheme, I would like the PM to come clean before the budget on the 14th May and TA to put forward their plans and let all Australians know what each party plan is.
which Government ? All that i recall. that includes the potential PM Abbott. who will continue the same practices.

Yes I agree to a point but I was talking about the announcement by PMJG today that the purchase of the planes etc was going ahead, if the money was there it may be a consideration BUT the money is NOT there, they spent is all and some of this should have been allocated to the NDIS when Labor introduced the scheme 6 years ago.
Where is the money coming from to buy these new planes and subs ? is the payment for these war toys allocated to future revenue ? if so it is just more of the same irrational thinking hoping upon hope that future revenue will be adequate to cover the costs when the bill is due.
I could not run my business on the presumption I MIGHT make enough money to cover my costs for the next year, some money has to be on hand and you have to have certain reserves because no one can predict the future.
I think that is the biggest mistake Labor made which only convinces me more that the PM and WS along with the Labor party members are not capable of running this country.
Whether the Libs can only time will tell, all I can say is they cannot do any worse.

With crocodile tears of indifference from a pretender, however the most important thing is it is through, I agree.
