THE average worker could be hit with an increased Medicare levy of about $300 a year in next month's budget to help pay for the national disability insurance scheme.
The federal government is seriously considering increasing the Medicare levy from 1.5 to 2 per cent after Prime Minister Julia Gillard warned "urgent and grave" decisions were needed to cope with a $12 billion hit to tax revenue.
The Daily Telegraph understands while the higher Medicare levy would be presented as a reasonable form of "insurance" to protect families from the huge costs of coping with a disability, no final decision has been made whether to include it in the May 14 budget.
Ms Gillard will face attacks that it is another broken promise after she last year ruled out increasing the Medicare levy to pay for DisabilityCare

She can not and should not live with her (our Father) .She and many other family members have no contact with him.Her mother is dead.I have offered... her life ,her friends and her school (when she is well enough) is some distance from where I live .She has said no..that she won't do that .I am a 24/7 carer. She knows that too.She was and can live independently again when there is enough support for her.

Sorry, I thought in your post 51 you said she is 25, is she a mature age student if she still attends school.
Be grateful she can one day be independent again unlike the child I know who will never be independent and requires 24/7 care. He does attend special school in the town he lives which is a godsend but to get him to school is the equivalent of getting 3 other children to school.
It is very difficult and this child is a dead weight so lifting in and out of his wheel chair is hard, just one of the things this and other families face.

Gillard has officially changed her mind....
she is going to implement a .5% increase in the Medicare levy. This levy will not cover the cost of the NDIS... she will need to make massive cuts...
She also said the average wage is $70K 😐

looks like its going to go ahead, PM is about to confirm it .
3 cheers for Julia 🙂

You are such a stirrer LL, I am sure you sit there with a sneer on your face thinking who can you upset next. I for one have a good laugh at your ridiculous attempts to defend this government and I will be one of the people who "have the last laugh".
Please promise us you will be online when JG announces she has been smashed and has to congratulate TA for winning the next election because I will have the need to gloat.
