Is this what were digging great holes into and deforesting our earth for? Mining coal and other resources to stoke the furnaces of overseas factories so they can manufacture tons of plastic junk?

Plastic bottles and other garbage block a dam in Bulgaria.
Will we ultimately suffocate in our own waste?

So true. I remember when milk came in glass bottles, empties of which were left at the gate for the milkman to replace with full ones and the empties went back to be washed and re-used.
My grandmother had her TV for EVER. If it broke down, it was repaired, now we take 'em to the tip and buy a new one.

I think I do, LL. In a less rampantly destructive and more sustainable form, I have nothing against it.
But where do we go when there's nothing left and Earth looks like Mars?
Is that why earths resources are being so ruthlessly plundered? To raise money for space exploration so the rich elite can take off and colonise a new planet while the humble folk stay to deal with the aftermath?

i agree entirely. the coca-cola's of this world are just too big and powerful, surely when we reach the place where the planet is suffering because of the business practices of mega-corporations something needs to be done. its a bit like the carbon tax situation... some formerly unknown non- lord will be brought out to point out the benefits of a sea of plastic, and around half the population will consider his arguments valid. :^O

No matter how we rearrange things on the planet, it'll still be here after we are gone.
Maybe the Earth created humans to make styrofoam and plastic.

so , at this rate we will be able to walk to indonesia or new zealand wearing a improved version of the humble snow- shoe ? asylum seekers can approach in a new stealthy way .. under the plastic.

Unfortunately most things are cheaper to buy new than get the old repaired
