Is this what were digging great holes into and deforesting our earth for? Mining coal and other resources to stoke the furnaces of overseas factories so they can manufacture tons of plastic junk?

Plastic bottles and other garbage block a dam in Bulgaria.
Will we ultimately suffocate in our own waste?

Now that's twice! Three times a charm?:-D
No matter how we rearrange things on the planet, it'll still be here after we are gone.

Oh yes the planet will no doubt be spinning in space for trillions of years to come. It just may not be able to sustain life.
There hasn't been any life on this planet for most of it's life, and in the long run.....none of us matter and all will be forgotten.
(if this doesn't stick......)

the coca-cola's of this world are just too big and powerful
I don't buy from any individual or company should I find lack of integrity.
Doesn't matter how much I may want the product, I move to something else.
Ethical investment is the way we decide how the future will be.
Unfortunately the younger generations are not taught the ways our grandparents/parents taught us. That, I think is one of the biggest single contributors to the problems that occur amongst our younger ones.

Maybe the Earth created humans to make styrofoam and plastic.

Humans have the capacity and the power to do the most amazing things, jimmeh. We're living it.
Why use these capabilites to create trash? Simply because lesser minds see only profit, not benefits for humankind.
Unless 80% of the population get wiped out there is no way it can continue much longer. As someone else mentioned, the only other solution is to colonize another planet and take what we've learned here and do it right.
I recycle everything possible and I am happy to see the program is so successful people are stealing it. I find uses for all plastic bags that come into this house.

Yes I find uses for plastic bags too Jimmeh , but they still end up in land fill. one way or the other ... sigh.
We used to wrap all our rubbish in newspaper but now it's plastic bags. .

Hi Bright
yes, we also recycle our plastic bags in the same way too, but they still all end up in the same place.
I even recycle packaging for postage

so , at this rate we will be able to walk to indonesia or new zealand wearing a improved version of the humble snow- shoe ? asylum seekers can approach in a new stealthy way .. under the plastic.

There are lots of options for recycling now (including council provided yellow lid bins for households). Whether people take up these options is another matter.
Supermarket bags - the supermarkets have bins you can take these back to for recycling.
I saw a door mats for sale the other day that had been made from recycled soft drink bottles.

that's a good idea taking them back to the supermarket Am3
