If only everybody could live a law-abiding life like you and I and most of us, there'd be no reason to call them that, would there?
i often call people who turn subsidised rental properties into places i wouldnt let my dog sleep in pigs too.
its a very common term to give to anyone who acts like a pig. that includes police who take the law and rewrite it often hurting innocent people. or even hurt people who they are detaining or arresting, its not a cops job to dish out punishment, only to find out if they think a court will think they need punishment.
if we cant call bad cops 'pigs' can we call them 'inmates'? no i guess not as its pretty rare they get punished for acting like 'pigs'

Icy does have a valid point though marwi. The problem is using "Pigs" as a general thread title/subject comes over as really aggressive towards all police, even though you don't mean to be.
I know you don't mean any harm though and you have every right to refer to police who do wrong by those they are supposed to protect as something other than civilised. Police Officers who behave in criminal ways themselves make those who are law abiding and innocent citizens feel fearful of them and it shouldn't be that way.

I personally do not call police "pigs" and there was a time when I would argue that law-abiding person has nothing to fear from the police, and if I would feel threatened I would immediately think to look for a policeman. But then, over the years I witnessed some scary police behavior. The 1st shock was some 45 years ago when 2 policemen run into school yard chasing 16 years old kid who, we later found, was caught stealing a t-shirt, it was almost 4pm school day and the only reason there were not many kids there was because it was a cold day. They fired several shots and THEN called "stop or I shoot", the shots made huge holes in the walls of the toilet block, lucky nobody was in there. The kid escaped over the back fence. I grabbed my daughter and ran to the police station around the corner and asked for the person in charge, told him what happened, and he gave me big grin and said "do you have any drugs at home?", I was absolutely speechless, and when I answered "no, of-course not", he said " well, that could be arranged", and then he asked me if I still want to make an official complaint. I never again would depend on the police to protect me. So when couple of years later I had a man stalking me and the policemen just laughed, and told me I should feel flattered, I was not surprised.

NO Not where I live. Our local police force is that corrupted that I no longer report serious crimes which I come across from time to time. You dont know wether you are talking to clean police or police who are an active part of the criminal gangs.
Last night I was working in my sheep yards which are adjacent a winding rubble road. I could hear a car coming from a distance, engine revving, driving like a rally car. There is a tight bend in the road where the sheep yards are and I was thinking this isnt going to end well. Sure enough, an immacualte Commodore wagon slides around the corner, loses control, rides an embacment and hits a tree. The driver just wacks the car in reverse, revs the engine absolutely flat out, manages to reverse out and drives off.
Once I finish the sheep work, I went out for a look. Oil had poured from the car and left a trail as the guy drove off. I followed the oil on the road for several KM. to an isolated bush block. The driveway had huge barb wire capped steel gates with two massive chains and padlocks.
Yeah I,m sure that was all ligit. If you owned an immaculate car like that, you wouldnt be driving like a nutter on back roads, smash it into a tree and drive off again with the oil pouring out of it.
Report it to the police ? Not likely. Its not safe to do so where I live. Bad things happen to people who report crime to police . If matters are reffered to police integrity commissions, nothing is done and "investigations" always find police did nothing wrong. I know from personal experience of reporting a serious crime in the past that the corruption extends at least to a major, central command station. And this is in Australia in 2018.

i hope that if i ever need to dial 000, and believe me id need to be in a real pickle to ever do that, i hope i get a nice professional cop and not one of the 'pigs' i read about or see on the news or watch online.
its the few 'pigs' in the system who make people like me fear dialing 000.
those in charge need to be weeding out the 'pigs', they must know when good coppers become known for 'bending the rules' to get a result.
