Most interesting period in history to read about.

I know this is unlike most of my threads. But which particular period in history are you interested in and why?

What do you learn about learning from past histories? Do you think history repeats itself?

What does interest in certain period in history say about you?

I have friends that are really into war history coz' they have elderly relatives that participate in it. Whereas I find it very depressing to read about war history.

I find the Russian Tsar stories very interesting.

All history interests me but I'm most fascinated by the Middle Ages, predominantly late Middle Ages. From the moment that the Roman Empire fell apart and the world seemed to split in it's different factions and the Church started to become powerful. It was a time that population skyrocketed and at the same time was stalled by things like the plague.

I'm not sure what it says about me. Unlike any other time in history, life in the Middle Ages is totally aline and I can't imagine living in it so maybe it says that I like trying to understand the things that make the least sense to me? I dunno.

And, no, history doesn't repeat itself. Not because humans learn from the past (we aren't that smart) but because circumstances always give the same event a different focus IYKWIM. That's why even in the modern world, we are stupid enough to go to war twice withing a short time frame.
