Motivational quotes

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced those who don't like motivational quotes are the ones who need them the most.

Sorry Jess. not for me.

It seems you assume - by continually posting in the manner you do - most of us are unhappy with 'our lot' .

Personally I get the opposite from most posters here - all seem pretty well grounded with themselves.

Therefore in no need of additional 'aid' from an 18 year old.

There's a difference between being happy with what you're doing, and not. Hopefully thats not too hard to understand ๐Ÿ˜›

Perhaps those people who don't like any form of inspirational and/or motivational message are content with their lives to remain unchanged; content for seasons to come and go without any form of growth, and without any desire to better themselves. Perhaps they don't like quotes because it actually makes them stop and think for a moment that they are unsatisfied with their lives and how they themselves are dealing with it.

Perhaps those people who don't like any form of inspirational and/or motivational message don't find the messages inspirational or motivational because they aren't.  The world is full of hackneyed phrases and comments endlessly recycled and it might be that SOME people don't find inspiration in cliches.

No one's life is unchanged.  It may change a lot or just a little but it can't stay exactly the same. Smiley Tongue

Growth or bettering oneself?  Well, I've certainly grown - up and (alas) out. Smiley Embarassed  What on earth do you mean be bettering oneself?  What a curiously class ridden statement.  I am educated, have a tertiary qualification and a job.  But as I'm not in management (God forbid) or don't (yet) aspire to be Ruler of the Universe I suppose I haven't bettered myself enough. Smiley LOL  Other people have chosen different paths than mine and all are equally valid.

Let me give you one example of where 'bettering yourself' can get you.  My parents did not come from moneyed families.  My father was forced to leave school at 14 and find work.  He later had the opportunity to got back to school and go on to university which he did while holding down a job and marrying and raising a family.  With his degree he found a good position, and also being a good worker and later a good boss (he always was very good father BTW) he rose to dizzying heights indeed.  But the hours became long and the travel was exhausting.  He had a heart attack at 50 and was (as was the custom in those days) forced into retirement.  Seeing what happened to my father I was resolved to earn enough money to live comfortably and without debt....but I was not going to run myself almost into the grave.  We can't all be 'better' (whatever that means) and some of us have valid reasons not to want it.

As for the last sentence....  Perhaps they don't like quotes because they are happy without them and frankly most of the soppy messages posted these days are probably irrelevant to their lives.

You know what messages I find have value?  The ones that make me laugh.  99% of the rest belong buried at the bottom of a cereal box to be tossed out with the garbage.

I'm not forcing you to accept any 'aid', so I don't know why you feel the need to point that out to me.

I think smilies & use of emoticons helps prevent the message from being misinterpreted. If it's meant to be happy, I'll use a smilie; sad, a sad face; sarcastic, a ๐Ÿ˜› or ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Yes, I agreed with someone (maybe it was you, sorry, I'm terrible at remembering who is who) about this. Everything seems to be made into a quote these days, but I don't think all of them are unneccessary or unhelpful.

Yes, my dad left school at 16 because his parents wouldn't (not couldn't) pay for him to go to college or anything. He worked his way up the ranks and eventually became manager. Now in his 50's he is undertaking his first BA degree. Because of that, my sibling was encouraged to complete his education while he was younger, because it's just so much harder when you have a family and work on top. So my sibling did a BA and is now at college, all because dad inspired him to study before settling down ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm glad you are inspired to have a better work/life balance because of your father ๐Ÿ™‚

Sometimes the use of smilies is to disguise the real intent of the written word...we have all seen them used like that.

Fair enough...that is your opinion but as has been pointed out several times not everyone agrees with you, but rather than just accept that people think differently you seem determined to prove them wrong.

Sarcastically speaking...

When I read a motivational quote and it doesn't make sense to me, I think "That must be aimed at other people, and How Do I Become One Of Those Other People?".

Because obviously those people Matter - I mean, they must, right?

They're the ones getting Motivationals written at them.

I Want To Be One Of Them.

Then I too will be beautiful and popular and socially adept and liked and all that good stuff.

Re: Motivational quotes

I

Ive seen a golf thread on cs

Have never looked at it though

There is also a music thread,

Aphotography thread  and how

Many other specific threads

Does anyone ever jump on the

Golf thread and tell the op not

To play gold

This is very specifically a

Motivational Quotes thread

If you dont feel you need motivation

Cant you just stay away and leave

It to the ones that mighr feel they

Need it.

Maybe that requires too much

Motivation

Not aimed at anyone in particular
