Muslims Immigrating to Australia

Do you have anything against it?

Why?

What about other religions? Buddhists and Christians, are they ok?

Comments welcome 🙂

I think it is dependant on where you live, I was not trying to be flippant, they are obviously Christian, hard working but very noisy in the neighbourhood apparently 🙂

Many of those people wearing the head coverings are deeply religious and don't drink at all, who would you prefer as your neighbour? Smiley Very Happy

Well let me tell you about the Irish in Bondi 🙂 Gosh can they drink! They fill up the churches here on Sundays too, is that good enough do you think?

I was more thinking about how people who wear head covers had refused to remove them for entering banks etc, or for identification purposes with police/authorities.

one doesn't have to drink or attend church to adapt to our culture, I think those analogies are a bit extreme and flippant.

a couple have refused................. I don't think I have read/heard about any being asked to remove them in banks. several employees at ours wear them.

They do conform to our laws, don't they? Where would we be without pizza, Thai, Chinese Indian etc food?

Yes, I wonder if some here have boycotted Vietnamese restaurants, possibly run by the once despised "boat people"

Lebanese food has been very popular since I have lived in Sydney, I never thought to ask whether the store owner was Catholic or Muslim,

there was quite a lot of racism back in the 60's towards our 'new Australians"

I thought we'd changed as we are a multi culutural society now, but maybe not??

I have nothing against people of any religion, as long as they come here the legitimate way and accept our laws, and don't try to change things to their liking or beliefs.

Before I cme to Australia, my father told me; "You are going to a new country, you will have to learn the language, the laws and assimilate with local people if you want to become one of them and be accepted for the peron you are."

Religion has nothing to do with assimilation. We have lots of different religions in this country. The worst a newcommr can do is to stick with people of their own nationality and form inclusive groups.

We still have some people here from the south of Europe that have hardly learned the language even after 50+ years in this country. I asked one man one day why he would not allow his wife to come to a Craft Group, she would soon learn the language and be able to communicate with neighbours. He told me that it is no good, she will only learn to be rebellious at home and try to live like Australian women do.

Those are the kin of things that annoy me greatly about migrants to our beautiful country.

There is a restaurant in Newtown which serves the best African food.  Probably made by Moslems.  Never thought about that while I was eating.
