My 71 year old mother got a flu vaccine last year but she has a very bad flu for about 2 weeks, why?

My poor mother has went to the trouble of getting her annual vaccine but now many months later she has caught the flu & it's a really bad prolonged case how is this possible?. I thought that if you still picked it up that it would only be a mild cold or flu?!

Re: My 71 year old mother got a flu vaccine last year but she has a very bad flu for about 2 weeks,

There have been a lot of bugs around last year.  I have the flu jab every year - I get no choice, my dr just gives it to me.  Never been a problem and I'm not blaming it for the bad year I had from about June and still going on.

I had a cold in June and I have been chesty, asthmatic, coughing etc ever since.  I've had 3 lots of antibiotics but there is no infection most of the time, 2 lots of prednisolone and still I've got lots of clear mucous causing me havoc.  I know of several others that have been the same so I think it has been the season.

Every year's flu is diffrent. your mom was getting last year's flu shot. By the time they find and make a vaccine for this year's flu, it will be next year and we will be getting that present flu. Since we have not invented the time machine to look into the future flu,
