I have opted out too. Don't trust their ability to prevent nefarious activity from third parties

Re: My Health Record ---- Opt In or Out

it really doesnt bother me, i think having your medical records available quickly if you travel around the country and had some reason to require medical treatment would be a good. as i never go furthur than adelaide once every 5 years or so it no big deal for me.

but i know govts are really carp at keeping promises too so the security will allways be a problem.

there is nothing i have in my medical records i have fear of others knowing about, so i'm not 'normal' what is 'normal' anyway?

and if i'm ever rushed to hospital it will be great if i dont have to remember all the pills i take.

It's a personal thing David, given how many other things this gov has stuffed upon ( last night was good example ), there is no way, I am taking a chance re my medical records.

Also doesn't worry me. If anyone is interested in the one and only tablet my GP prescribes for me, they must have a very boring life!!

Re: My Health Record ---- Opt In or Out

Im finding that the whole opt-out bit is something of a hoot...

Here's how it's working from my perspective:

Fred is horrifed at the idea that Big Brother will be keeping details on him in a centralized location. He's not sure whether the Government is the problem, or maybe it's the thousands of hackers who are sitting online searching his name every few minutes and patiently waiting for his details to pop up, but he knows it's not a good thing. He wants out, and breaks the world land-speed record getting to a computer so's he can start the "no! NO! NO!!" process.

The opt-out process requires that Fred supplies two items of ID - his Medicare number (which they already have), and his driver's license number. Which, of course, he supplies without a second thought.

Let's think about that for a sec, huh? Fred doesn't want Big Bro to have a whole bunch of info on him. In order to avoid that, Fred has... just given them a piece of info that they didn't have. They already had his Medicare card number, now they have his driver's license number linked to his Medicare number.

Moving forward: Fred completes the opt-out process, and is told he's been successful. For his own records, he can either print the confirmation page, or have a copy e-mailed to him. Naturally, he chooses e-mail, because printed pages can be easily lost.

So now, Big Bro has an e-mail address linked to all Fred's other details.

The process started off with Big Bro having Fred's Medicare card number. Now they also have his driver's license details and an e-mail address linked to that Medicare number.

Whoever it is who's busily compiling and cross-referencing everyone's info is probably wetting themselves with laughter at how easy it is...

I didn't give them my email.
Third parties have already been accessing the my health records of those that were already opted in.
You already have to provide ID at so many places now and the government already knows your driver's licence number. The government issues driver's licences.
What I don't want is anybody accessing private information about me so that they can hound me about buying insurance or whatever it is that they are selling.
I have had to stop selling scrap metal because in Victoria you must produce a licence and a bank account to facilitate payment and scrap metal dealers don't strike me as being that concerned about protecting your information.
You can't stop all the information compiling but I can limit it.
Made a complaint to Coke a Cola Amatil and they want your date of birth so I gave them the date of the day I was making the complaint. Don't see why they need a date of birth. Also complained about that in my original complaint.
Once again it's not about stopping the gathering of information, that is impossible. It's about limiting

Performance and enigmabear. The reason that you can use your driver's licence as ID is because they already know your driver's licence details.
If they didn't it wouldn't be ID.
So your argument is flawed
