My Mums update thread

This thread is dedicated to my Mother and her recovery.

Photobucket

On Monday the 4th June 2007, while holidaying in the UK with my Father, my Mother was struck by a van while crossing the road.

Mum spent 88 days in various UK hospitals before finally being brought home back to Australia on the 30th August 2007.

She is currently in The John Whittle Nursing Facility with brain damage

I have set up this thread to keep you all updated on her condition and her improvements and hopefully one day, Mum will be able to read it.

Could he be working for the Blackpool City council's insurance co?
I went to Blackpool for a few days when I was in the UK recently Amy, my thoughts often turned to your family.

Re: My Mums update thread

I don't think it's gotten to the stage that Blackpool council would be sending their own doctors yet.

Could get to that in a few months and we more then welcome any new doctors to come see her. And if any of them think they can do more for her and get her "better" then what she is now......well no compensation in the world would top that

It actually gets shown on a tv shows now and then. I think Ramseys Kitchen Nightmares was the last one i saw it on. And i find myself searching for the place where the accident might of happened

Hello dear ((Amy))

we more then welcome any new doctors to come see her. And if any of them think they can do more for her and get her "better" then what she is now......

Please dont be upset by what I am about to tell you.

None of these doctors from either your solicitor's or the insurance co are there to treat or recommend treatment, they are there solely for the purpose of assessing your Mom to prepare what is called a medico legal report.

Your experts will be positive and the other side will minimise your Mums issues and make them seem trivial.

Again please donโ€™t be upset I am only trying to stop you from being further disappointed when nothing comes from these visits, and if you donโ€™t think you are up to it do not read the insurance co report.

hi raptor,

i know what you are saying is true.
Good luck to the other side making her issues seem trivial though. They really can't be any worse then they are.

I am fine with things now. It's taken me a long time to get to this frame of mind. I know Mum will never get any better then what she is and i only hope now that she passes away peacefully.

Re: My Mums update thread

Ive had a woman contact me on facebook.
In August her mother went into a diabetic coma and due to her sugar levels being so low for so long she has severe brain damage.
She is bedridden or the nurses put her in a wheelchair a few hours a day, fed through a peg tube, can't talk.

This woman has no one to talk to about what she is going through and she just wants to talk to someone who is going through the same thing.

I'm happy to talk to her but it's hard because i dont want her to loose hope yet.

This is what i wrote to her

I really don't know what to say as i don't want you to loose hope by comparing your Mum to my Mum.
Next June will be 4 years since Mums accident. After she first opened her eyes from the coma, we had hope she would recover. She would try and talk and seemed to know familiar faces. As time went on, she started laughing at funny things and crying at sad things so we still had hope.
The kick came for us when she was rejected for rehab because they said she wasnt doing enough to start a rehab program. So she was put in a nursing home. And thats where she has been all this time. Yes, she is cared for, but she received no type of rehab to help her brain heal.
So as time has gone by, she stopped trying to talk, stopped laughing and crying and has no reaction to anything at all.
We were told early on that the brain is miraculous and can recover from some damage, as long as it is given plenty of stimulation.
So my advice to you is.......keep pushing the doctors to get your Mum into a rehab program and make sure she is getting daily physio.
Have a read of this article

and check out this website
http://sites.google.com/site/zolpidemtherapy/home

The Doctor in charge of the Zopidem trial is called Dr Ralf Clauss.
I have been in contact with him via email.

I had the Zolpidem/Stilnox tablet (for sleeping problems) and was going to give it to my Mum but i chickened out. Now it's to late to try her on it. Her lungs, liver and kidneys are starting to shut down.
If i could go back 1 or 2 years ago, i would of given her the tablet.

Re: My Mums update thread

Well said sir_raptor that's exactly what I was getting at when I asked Amy back up there ^^ about the Doctor.

Some of those Insurance Doctor's can be heartless and downright obnoxious with their reports, if need be treat them with the contempt they deserve.

Your message to the Lady who contacted you via FB was both sympathetic and helpful, just be aware of your wellbeing if you decide to befriend this Lady Amy. It's marvelous to see you back to yourself after such a long battle, it would be a step backward for you to become depressed by rehashing the past 4yrs, both you and your family did everything in your power to help and make things better for your Mum. Please don't rehash the "what if's" and "maybe iff's". โ™ฅโ™ฅโ™ฅ
