After several hours during the week clearing and cleaning up a messy garden my day started like this

They actually come in four sizes although I discount the smallest as abhorrent manipulation of the breed.
Standard, miniature, toy and lastly teacup.
We have a black standard, another friend here in the west has a cute champagne coloured toy and another has a black miniature. The toys are generally regular cat sized whereas the miniatures are foxy size. I personally prefer big dogs but if I had to choose a smaller one - I would go for the miniature as the toys are just as the names suggests - they look like toys lol
They are wonderful, whatever size you choose but be careful of the browns as they are the clowns in the family and two in the one household might be a but much for Mr F 
Good suggestion by Bushie about poodle rescue in NSW Freddie. Avoiding the 'puppy' stage and getting one a little more mature might be easier for you both although little poodle puppies are divine.
You should see my girl - at the moment she is curled up on an old feather doona at my feet. Gardening has exhausted her! She looks like an over-sized possum - all 30 kgs of her
