After several hours during the week clearing and cleaning up a messy garden my day started like this

We buy our lamb straight off the farm, also have a friend who gives us some beef from time to time, I cant remember the last time I bought meat in a supermarket. I'm not keen on two tooth, Mr B doesnt mind it but prefer mine a little younger.
Some great sheep come from my area aps

I almost spat tea all over my laptop reading some of the cooking disaster stories!
I have one or two (okay, okay a whole heap!) from my early days as a cook. I was handicapped by the fact that apart from pealing veggies, Mum always shooed us out of the kitchen so I am pretty well self taught...
There was the first time I made scones and they turned out like ice hockey pucks... so hard even the dogs wouldn't try them...
Or the time I tried to make some bread dough for a recipe my mum used to make, and it refused to rise... and refused to rise.... and refused to rise. So I took it up to the chook pen and dumped it. The chooks eyed it suspiciously as I walked out but didn't get stuck into it... Then a couple of hours later I look out the kitchen window and see a strange white "thing"in the chook pen. I get the .22 out thinking it was a feral cat that had been eating our ducklings, snuck quietly out and prepared to put a shot into it.... but it didn't move...
Further investigation showed that that rotten dough did eventually rise!!!
I could go on....
I have a pressure cooker, over 35 years old now but still use it occasionally. The slow cooker seems to have taken over from it though. I have never had it explode, but the eldest son (who was an adventurous cook even as a teen) did make it explode - I think he was making apples for a pie??? I was at work, and we were cleaning bits off the ceiling for weeks after!

Good morning to everyone. Have a good one today !
Loved the cooking stories !
My mothers pressure cooker is one of those tall, THICK aluminium one's with a steel release at the top.
Very much like this but taller.
Like this but with a different pressure valve !
Funnily enough, I found that picture on a web page about warnings about old pressure cookers ![]()
It said this
"Some people are leery about pressure cookers because of the legendary tales about kitchen explosions. It's true, all true. Some really bad pressure cookers were made by unscrupulous American manufacturers right after WW II. These companies tried to stay in business by retooling their factories and switching from the production of wartime parts to cookware."

LOL, just as I was closing the windows, I saw her exact Pressure Cooker ![]()
I can tell because that is the exact pressure release valve !
Not bad for a bloke that probably hasn't seen it for 20 years ![]()
If you are wondering why my mother still has all these old things, she was brought up in the war where
they used to come round and collect all your excess pots and pans to melt down to make aircraft.
From memory they had 1 Frying pan, 2 Saucepans and 1 or 2 baking trays !

Good morning Sandy, Aps and everyone else
I loved all the cooking disaster stories they gave me quite chuckle ... I think the prize must go to B3, I had a mental image of her stalking through the chook yard with her 22 ready to shoot the risen bread dough lol lol
Aps I cant remember what my late mother's pressure cooker looked like, I was only 23 when she died, I do remember it being quite heavy, not like the rubbish around today.
Have a safe trip to Melb Sandy, hope it's not too hot for you and your friend, thank goodness forair conditioned cars
Had a bit of drama here late last night, as I walked through the bathroom a large visitor of the 8 legged variety decided to run up the wall beside me. Due to a quite traumatic experience as a little child, I am severely arachnophobic ( sp ), even a photo of one sends me into a spin. Thankfully Mr B was able to quickly erraticate the prob and peace and calm returned to the Bushie household. Hopefully once we dont have huge gaps between the walls and the floor and new window and flyscreens has been installed we will get less of of the not so little visitors.
I hope everyone stays nice and cool away from the heat today, looks like it's going to be a shocker
