After several hours during the week clearing and cleaning up a messy garden my day started like this

DEB - Memories are coming back to me of the simmering, then boiling, then whistling kettle on the stove-top in "the olden days".
I hear you. Recently I told a person in their early 20's that electric jugs didn't used to automatically turn off when water had boiled. We had an electric jug that whistled when boiled, so you knew to go and turn it off.
They thought that was very strange.
I bought an expensive electic jug and the bottom (inside) started to rust out not that long after it was purchased. I returned it and got another one (inside base has more of a stainless steel look than the first one). It has a 2 yr guarantee so will keep a close eye on it.

ever since she saw it at my parents house. But she refused to pay $149 for it so kept looking.
Some places have it for around $128.
This is the oneI bought that failed (rusted out inside base). I bought it in Target for $89... obviously Breville knew there were problems with that batch and sold them off cheap , as Target don't usually sell that higher priced model. It was still under warranty, so got my money back and bought another one from a different store. It is a good jug, apart from the rust problem!
They have changed to metal type in the bottom on the new models so they shouldn't have that problem again. First one rusted out, and a common problem going by reviews on the net.
I also had to replace Breville Ikon toaster recently as the lever wouldn't stay down (another common problem, not user fault).
Keep the receipts, and take note of the warranty period.

Different temps for different drinks... black tea, green tea, coffee.
I only drink hot water, so use a lower temp than boiling.
