My day

After several hours during the week clearing and cleaning up a messy garden my day started like this before and after 002.JPG

Re: My day

Lyn, I know how you feel. Our courtyard is covered in gum leaves and little twigs all year round. A full bin later and it is still a mess. Think it might have made my plants sick too. All the oil.

stay safe everyone

Re: My day

Bushie,  I'm pretty sure that ages ago you mentioned a book called

Horrible Man - to do with the Portland hairdressing murders?

The hairdresser and her client were murdered in 1991

I thought it sounded like an interesting read, so I downloaded it onto my kindle.

I was captivated by it and was upset for the families that these murders had

not been solved.

I see now that the husband of the customer in that salon has been arrested

and charged with two counts of murder.   The police at the time said both

husbands had alibis

This link is 9 days old, sorry.   He is out on bail.

He is to return to court in July.

How on earth did they decide it was him, after 24 years?

Re: My day

I saw a documentary on the Portland hairdresser murders last year stawka.

What came out of the documentary was a high school teacher that lives there just felt there was more to the murder, and concerned it was never solved. In her spare time,  she went over all the evidence etc, page by page (took her a long time) and from what  she discovered, the police focused on the husband of the hairdressers friend who was also murderded.

The TV show tracked him (alleged murder) down and they asked him about it and he just said nothing to do with him.

He moved away from the area very quickly and found a new partner quite soon too.

The hairdressers son was a policeman at the time and was called to a murder at a hairdresser salon.. his Mum's Woman Sad

1991 Portland hair salon murders: Is this the end of the nightmare?

A 60 Minutes documentary on Channel Nine last year appears to have been the catalyst for a renewed push by Victoria Police to solve the case.

In the days after the program went to air, Mr Menzel received a surprise visit from detectives belonging to the cold case squad.

Re: My day

He re-married within 18 months apparently.   (Too soon for my liking)

But his alibi at the time was, he was baby-sitting their 5yo grandaughter.

I thought maybe the little girl may have remembered something significant.

The link to the news story above, says he shared information with his

children the day after the murders and visited the husband of the other

woman and mentioned the murder weapon.   The police never released

that info.

Having read that,  why did it take the police 24 years?

The hairdresser's son certainly kept on top of the investigation as a policeman.

Re: My day

Very interesting case Stalker, in a cruel twist of fate the hairdresser who was murdered should not have been working in the saloon that day, she was there because the other hairdresser had called in sick.

It was often rumoured around Portland that the client's husband had committed the murders but there was just not enough evidence to prove it at the time. It looks like this has now changed, so it will be interesting to see what happens during the trial, if it ever gets that far.
