After several hours during the week clearing and cleaning up a messy garden my day started like this

Quebec Lyndal, probably why I miss the snow so much.
It makes me chuckle a little bit when the Tassie people describe some winter days here as freezing when it's positively balmy at minus 4 or 5 degrees. I think of when I was walking around at minus 30, dressed differently of course, and thinking nothing of it.
Mind you, last trip to Alaska was minus 46, that was something quite different ....

I've visited Winnipeg, ye gads it can get cold there, but what an interesting place it is. As soon as we got off the train, we had to literally gallop to get under cover, there was a howling wind with heavy snow.

Hey Bushie xx
What is "force flowered" ? Does that mean that the plant has been overfed to make it grow larger in the pot where it's being sold?
I suddenly had a vision of that wild singing cannibal plant in "Little Shop of Horrors" ....

Tas, they bring them into flower before they are ready, so they look good to sell. Doesnt hurt the plant at all, just means the first lot of flowers often dont last as long, it wont hurt the growth of the tree at all.
I bought one a few months ago, it was flowing back then, so I didnt expect the flowers to last, which they didnt

Oooh the French part of Canada....do you have a French background Tas?
When my OH first came here he maintained that it does not get cold in Australia....he kept that up for nearly 30 years but now feels the cold more thn I do.

Oh thanks Bushie, it's helpful to know about that and what's going on.
I noticed back there you are growing baby cabbages as well this year? Ours will be planted soon but the seedlings are a little hard to find here right now. Sometimes, I use them instead of letture in a salad all shredded because they taste kind of sweet.

One of mine hasn't flowered at all this year but the one next to it is prolific. Every year is different.

Yes and no Lyndal, I speak five languages altogether and quite often have to edit my posts because I find myself typing mostly in another language and then switch it back to English.
My German doesn't work so well in writing because of where the verb is placed in that language, so things get a little complex at times ...

I like that idea joono, it will be interesting to see what happens as time goes by. Haven't grown a Camillia before so it's a new experience xx
Having said that, we haven't grown much of anything until the last couple of years .. but that has all changed thanks to Bushie and many others here who have inspired and motivated Mr. Tas and I.
We even have a thriving lemon tree now, although we're waiting for it to flower and get the lemons going again. Only managed about 16 last time, but it's thriving, the leaves are deep green and at last, it looks so healthy. When we planted it, well, we won't go there, suffice it to say er, um ... well, you know .... but folks here helped us turn that around.
