For that poor little innocent baby tossed away like a sack of garbage down the storm water drain. I can't get my head around how any Mother could do such a thing. Never having gone through PND I can't fogive her actions as a Mother wouldn't you call out for help before it came to this?

Have you ever met an adult women who couldn't tell her family she was pregnant.... just gave birth?

Never met anyone, but yes, it does happen in some families.. where having a baby outside marriage is frowned upon and brings shame to the family, can be a religious family or just a very strict family/ cultural thing.
The baby's maternal grandparents live in Samoa. Be hard (distance, expense) for them to seek custody of the baby through the Australian courts I think.
Polynesian culture, children are brought up by their grandparents, Aunties, Uncles. Al one big happy family.

I think that scenario would be extremely rare.........

It is rare. Only one last week.

So? It is extremely rare for a mother of a newborn baby to dump it down a drain hole.
Different cultures have different ideals.. and that includes family members doing things that bring shame on the family.
I can't see the baby's family here in Australia not trying to get custody of him.

Yes, two women. One was a friend of my daughter's and the other the daughter of an Italian family who lived down the road from us.
In both cases nobdody - not even their closest family memebers knew anything until the babies were born.

My sister didnt tell us about a couple of her pregnancies. We did find out about them before she gave birth because she was pretty skinny and couldnt really hide the fact. Probably totally different reasons than in this case though. I have known some girls to hide pregnancies, one girl I know hid twins until a week before she gave birth, they were teenagers though.

I lived in a hostel with a young women who was pregnant and didn't want anyone to know.. and no-one did know, she wore shorts and sloppy t-shirts, she was solidly built but not obese.
She was the one that planned to take a few weeks off work, go away and have the baby, adopt it out. return and no one would know any different.. friends, family, no-one.
This was the baby that arrived early so it didn't work out like that. She did continue with her plan and give the baby up for adoption.
At least she had a plan and made the choice to adopt the baby out.. rather than the actions taken by the mother in this story.

I wonder if the mother in this circumstance ever considered doing the same....... or was her plan for 9 months to murder him?

The age of the mother seems relevant to me.
I'm finding it hard to believe a 30yr old would be unable to disclose a pregnancy.
Teenagers, I can understand.
