My vanity just exploded in my new bathhrom

Im so upset. I dont know what to do.

Have been working on this bathroom for a year.

I took this photo  a month ago. Things in place but water not connected

Have had a few plumber problems but they have been fixed.

Today plumber was here connecting final pipes for the vanity. He did it and called me to see. We were standing in front of the vanity when there was a BOOOOM and the glass top exploded.

Plumber says "Oh dont know why that would have happened. Oh well, it was installed. Maybe you can claim it on insurance"

I dont know what to do. Im in shock and in tears.

Hubby bought this vanity 5 years ago. I know theres no way we can replace it.

And now im gonna have to pay a plumbers bill of fitting this vanity and then also to fit a new one

That's pretty scary.  I've heard of the same thing happening with glass topped outdoor tables too.  I wanted to replace my wooden one but changed my mind after hearing about exploding tables.

😮 What happened Joono? I'd like to know as we have a glass outdoor table in storage at the moment that we'll use when we buy a house. Do they explode with the heat?

viewmont- Yes, I am thinking, if its possible, of just getting a replacement basin to fit. i did really like the blue basin but i wouldnt go glass again so would be happy with a normal white one.

I would like to keep the cupboard part because of the blue doors as we have a tall cupboard to match with the same blue doors and we have also put decorative blue tiles in the shower and around the bath

You may be able to get blue perspex cut to create the top but it would be more susceptible to scratching I guess

I just had a look at my glass vanity and it has clear silicone buffers between the screws and the glass bench and the screws and the stainless steel struts.

Mine is not the same as yours though....we got it custom made through GJames Glass.

It took awhile.....they cut the glass (10mm thick) then sent it to SA to be toughened.

I'm not sure why it happens Poppy but it's tempered glass and as monman said it only takes a tiny crack and then they can suddenly shatter.

Hopefully it is quite rare because I've known plenty of people with glass tables with no problems.  Imagine serving up the Christmas lunch and then kaboom!

I have 2 of those glass tables that were implicated in the shattering, no problem with mine though.

5 years without shattering, the plumber fits it and it shatters?

The plumber is at fault...... imo.

The insurance people will sort out that part, I am sure.
