Mystery Plant

Wonder if anybody can identify this plant.  It grows to about 60cm and in winter has lovely apricoty orange flower on the top.  Each of its leaves has little fingers, which i suspect drop off and form brand new baby, as they keep popping up in my cacti pots.  It gets severely burned by frost, but comes back,  and so far it got burnt before the flowere set any seeds.  This year I moved some of the babies inside.

Bryophyllum delagoense also known Mother of millions/thousands  ...... its a weed, banned in some states

I wondered about that, but I bought it in a large wholesale nursary.  So hopefully it is not banned in VIC. 

That's the problem; plants are either considered weeds or they are difficult to keep alive.  I sort of like weeds.

It is a weed, albeit a pretty one in NSW.

It is often found growing wild alongside country roads and seems to thrive on poor dry soil....it can be a sea of red when in flower.

Keep it in a pot....if it gets loose in the garden you will never get rid of it.  At least it is easy to pull up by the roots as no week killer that I know of will touch it.   It strikes from those little bits on the end of the "fingers".

Weeds are just something growing where you don't want them to.

On a side note Kazumi, are you aware your font size is a 1 when the forum size is 4?

Actually daisies and violets are considered weeds too. Some people will argue certain varieties are not, but it narrows down to one's opinion. If it's wanted it's not, if it's unwanted it is. Personally, I am very fond of daisies.

It's far more than "just being a weed"

Mother of millions is highly toxic to  humans, domestic pets and livestock. The farmers around here ( and elsewhere ) wouldnt thank you if the seeds blew into their paddocks and the plants killed their stock

It is hated among most serious succulent grower/collectors, personally I wouldn't have anywhere near my garden

I have had it for about 5 or 6 years, and it only dropped handful of its babies in the next pot so far.  We get frost several times each year and it damages them before they seed out.  every year the flowers only just opened and then froze off.  Also there are no farms anywhere near here.  However, I do worry about the toxicity, and so I got rid of most of them today.
