Nativiity scene

I'm still reeling from the shock.   Southland shopping centre (melbourne) has one of the most beautiful christmas trees i've ever seen in a mall.  And next to it ....the nativity...the old fashioned one that we know, if anyone can remember!        The baby in a manger and mary and joseph and i think a couple  of lambs thrown in too.

Can't help but wonder how long it will be allowed to sta:y there.    Smiley Surprised i'll get some photos next time.

Has anyone else seen non pc decorations?

Elephant I am not going to go in the why's n wherefores ( sp ), enough to say I have seen it   ..... check out some of the pages on fb sometime, you "may" just be surprised

Two little boys talking:
I'm getting operated on tomorrow
Oh? What are they going to do?
Circumcise me!
I had that done when I was just a few days old.
Did it hurt?
I couldn't walk for a year!

springyzone,

The commant about the mother complaining about the gun (and hunter) reminded me of a story where another diligent mother did not want her son exposed to guns and the like.

As she related the story, she explainted she thought she was doing a very good job and had got the message across.  That was until one morning at breakfast when her young son picked up a piece of bread and carefully ate bits of it until he was left with a gun shape....and pretended he was shooting everyone.  Boys will be boys apparently (and not just boys - who hasn't played cops and robbers, spacemen and aliens etc as a child?)

She realised it was better to teach him good behaviour and respect for others than focus on avoiding guns (toys included).

Smiley Very Happy

I never actively talked about guns or killing when I was teaching. I presume the gun in the program about the 1850s era was meant to symbolise people having to hunt for food, not kill other people.

Sometimes when you are in teaching, it is like walking on eggshells. Most parents are great but you meet all types.

I still recall one other teacher copped a blast because at lunchtime her child and his friends had discovered a dead bird in the playground and the teacher on duty had buried it. According to the parent it was wrong because her son originally found the bird & he was the one who should have been accorded the honours. Discrimination, it was called.Smiley Frustrated

Never ask a Muslim the question: "Does a dog have Buddha nature?"

Re: Nativiity scene

That sounds beautiful,Bright, and good to hear.

When I was still working I used to pass the Offices of the Church of the Latter Day Saints in Carlingford. They put on a life-sized Nativity each year.

I hope they still do. I might breeze by there on Saturday and have a look. Take a picture.

So pleased that at least one shopping centre has shown some initiative, hopefully more will follow    ..... If someone chooses to be offended by it, then that's their decision   ..... Aust is and hopefully will always be a Christian country

It's not  people who are offended by nativity scenes that are the problem, it's people who take it upon themselves to assume that others will be offended. I've seen plenty of letters to the paper and comments on social media criticising those who claim to be offended,  but I can't say I've ever seen a single one  by anyone actually doing the claiming.

I agree. I don't think the Muslims are actually offended by Christians celebrating our Christmas. It's the PC brigade and certain organisations that take it upon themselves to be offended on the Muslim's behalf and stir things up.

On the recent SBS TV show The Mosque Next Door there was clip showing an extremist (ISIS I guess) who was ranting that muslims must not wish christians a Happy Christmas.

A moderate Oz muslim Imam was very dismayed because there was no reason why a muslim couldn't wish a christian a Happy Christmas.  So they don't believe Jesus Christ is the son of God.....lots of religions don't.  But muslims do acknowledge Jesus as a prophet.

Honestly, when you study religion, with so many aspects of all the different religions having various ideologies in common or similar, what are we fighting about?  You'd think humans would have finally grown up and realised this but no such luck.
