them a new colour, currently mission brown.

DO NOT MIX COLOURS!
Everything from window frames, gutters, etc. should be the same. Go for a VERY dark almost charcoal grey. If the front door is timber, paint it a gloss royal blue. Have the roof sprayed the same colour as the window frames, garage doors etc. (dark dark dark grey).
The dark grey looks modern and works well with cream bricks. To me, the roof looks dark grey in the pics.
A royal blue door will give them home some interest and a lift without being overpowering like a red door would. Gloss black would also work for the front door, but would work better with a rendered finish. The royal blue gloss works well with the dark grey trim and cream bricks.

That is pretty much a dumb women's magazine tip. If I walked in to a house for sale I don't want to smell baked bread or cinnamon warmed up in the oven or anything like that.

You'd have to wonder what they're trying to hide :^O
Like the smell of dampness and mould.

The house is going on the market soon and really need to improve the look and give it some street appeal without spending a small fortune
How much are you prepared to go though, will you be painting the eves and the garage door too?
or do you just want to paint the gutters and over the yellow frame?
