Re: New ID brings back all the old posts

That is not the issue at all.  The person's IP address gets banned.

They have to be able to get around the IP ban. (Which most do not bother doing).

How would getting a new email address circumvent a ban?

This 'new' person makes ID's close to others user id names. They made one with DDB's original ID recently. They have also made ones similar to mine (before I shortened it). Perhaps it is good for others to be aware of that, and check carefully if they are in doubt who is posting as who.

I saw one similar to yours the other day.......

We should all check who we are posting with, now.

Ofcourse the school holidays are with us, and that doesnt help the situation any.

as Darki herself posted earlier in this thread;

This 'new ID' trick is so easy to do because so far eBay has not taken to making sure the email addresses that go with the new ID are genuine.

In other sites you don't actually become a member until the email the site sends to the given address is replied to.

eBay should be doing that here.  Sure you can keep getting multiple addresses, but it does mean the fake IDs can be traced.

Yes, they should be.  This issue has been raised with eBay on many occasions, but nope....

Won't hurt to keep on asking via proper channels, i guess.....

Getting new ID's with new email addresses, wont stop the problem, as Am*3 has written they also need to have another IP address, and who is going to get that and spend more money to have one........

They should do what they do on other forums that I am on...........check the new poster out very carefully, by sending emails to the person and asking personal info.

Dont know why ebay dont do it for this forum, would save alot of problems.

I'm thinking a verification process.  A phone number?

Yes, purple, an old thread started by user name similar to mine was bumped this week. Doesn't worry me, as they post the same old material under any ID, most people recognise now that it is that person.

Yes, that too.

Really, ebay is way behind the times when it comes to verifying who can post on the forum...........as it stands now, anyone can. If they took note of other forums and how they  do their approval of who can post, ebay would be a safer place for all posters.

Spend more money?  I'm pretty sure it doesn't work like that.
