Our new 'pup' (10 months) arrived a week ago and is settling in well. She seems happy and has stopped pining for her old family although every now and then there is a bit of wimpering if she can't see where we are.
She is drinking water but she isn't eating. The only thing we have managed to get into her is small bits of BBQ chicken skin (vets idea). That is in 7 days!
We called the breeder and apparently her companion (another female her age) also stopped eating but was back on her food by day 4.
Is there anything I can do?

Martini......just keep doing what you are doing....
IMO, any dog with you as it's family (pack for those who want to sound Oh So knowledgable) can't go wrong.
Can't beleive the carp going on over a pup who wouldn't eat, that is now eating, and is obviously loved to bits.
And where, pray tell, did the 22 hours of alone time come from ?? There are only 24 hours in a day, and my dogs sleep for about 12 of them!

The same old cup of dry biscuits - day in day out?
Perhaps try some liver treats, raw bones .. you know? To give your dog some kind of varied diet?

Your dog sleeps for 12 hours? Is he bored?
PS Why dont you sit outside excluded from your 'pack' (oh scuse me ...is "family" a more easily understandable term for the oh not so knowledgeable) only to be allowed inside for a couple of hours of TV time in the evening? And if you are not so knowledgeable then why are you giving advice?
PPS I have never EVER lived next door to a dog that's been on it's own all day while it's "family" works that hasn't barked most of the day out of boredom and loneliness. One poor dog barked so much it used to lose it's voice after 8 hours. So incredibly sad.

Young couple next door, full time workers, got themselves a new dog. Not puppy.
They put the toddlers in day care and off they go. Trouble is, this dog is 9 years old
and belonged to an old lady. It now barks and howls cos it's lonely all day.
They won't be told though. I have to listen to it, poor thing
But we digress. Martini's dog is now eating and we should all rejoice.

Don't have one now though. I would trip over the lazy sod.
If Martini's dog was a lab, there wouldn't be a problem
with it eating - posted this before, but sums up a lab's appetite
A Labs appetite & we know they have one.
I bought my Dad a Golden Lab for his retirement.
Sam was the total best - he actually outlived my Dad so kept my Mother very good company.
At the time I had a Mini Moke - heaven on wheels - red body with black & white patterned roof & removable sides.
Would take the dog on the passenger seat for rides to the beach.
Starving once - called into Maca's on the way home ( poor choice ).
Burger & fries - got Sam one for him alone - totally refused to eat the mustard coloured cheese.
That dog had good taste buds.

It's very sad for the dog and it's annoying to the neighbours who have to listen to the dog barking and howling all day but I guess people like to say they own a dog because it's on trend. It looks good on paper but in reality it's just upsetting when the dog isn't well looked after and by well looked after I mean more than providing a kennel outside and a bowl of dry biscuits.
When me and Mr Ex were together we had a beautiful rottie. We fed it the BARF diet (look it up oh not so knowledgable's) and took him for walks twice a day and to puppy school and he had a mat inside. He used to lick Beau's head, his tongue was bigger than Beau. lol But this dog was an incredibly smart dog and being a back yard pet was just cruel. We always noticed how happy he was at dog training. He was in his element. We put up a YouTube video of him playing ball and one thing led to another and we ended up donating him to the NSW Police Force. We decided upon NSW rather than Victoria where we live because once the dog is retired he lives with his handler/partner. From past reports "our" dog is one of their top police dogs now. It was sad to let him go but human's need to put the animals needs before their own. We have choices. They don't.

Good grief Cat. He gets a cup of biscuits in the morning. Where did I say that's all he get's? High horses indeed. Would you like to see his diet sheet?
When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.

Well, there you go, we should all donate our dogs to the police force...................... except I am home mostly and mine doesn't bark when I go out........... so the neighbours tell me. He doesn't do much, too lazy................ but he does that turn around and dance in circles for dog bikkies.

Really? Well, the line "same old biscuits day in day out" sounded like he got the same old biscuits day in day out. Nothing about how excited he gets over a bone or liver treats. I'm happy to hear he gets more than that. We'll just have to take your word for it then won't we.
