Day trips for children in detention run by Catholic Nuns have been banned and deemed 'not appropriate' by the Immigration Department & Peter Dutton.
Day trips were led for the last 4 years by Sister Brigid Arthur, 81, of the Brigidine Sisters.
"[We'd] go to the Collingwood Children's Farm, go to the zoo occasionally, out to adventure playgrounds," Sister Brigid told 774 ABC Melbourne's Jon Faine. "Anything that actually can entertain the kids and give them some stimulation."
Sister Brigid said the program had been suspended by the ABF, which said it was "under review".
"We haven't actually been able to resume it, so presumably the review has ... had a negative outcome," Sister Brigid said

@bluecat*riverdancing wrote:That is the $64,000 question. Why is it taking so long? All it took was an impending court case for Nauru to process the asylum seekers within a matter of days. Funny that. If Nauru can do it with those that we sent there, then why can't we do the same for those who are here.
Also, they did not arrive here illegally. It is not illegal to seek asylum no matter if they arrive by plane, boat or flying saucer. If they were not seeking asylum, then that would be different, then they would be here illegally which is why those not granted refugee status are deported.
My analogy in regards to known dangerous criminals being let loose in the community was probably a bit clunky.
The answer is......................there is a multi million $ industry in it................. the people who work there are extremely well paid for the very little that most of them do.
Without that, where would they be?

Two years ago, a hamper was given that contained a bottle of wine, which is banned from detention centres. That's it.

you'll find the guards probably wear
uniforms while the nuns don't dress
as penquins any more.

isn't the idea to give these kids
a break from their detention environment?

No wonder these children will grow up to hate us, then we can blame it on their religion.
Children should not be locked up, children should be able to play and go to the Zoo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there are excursions and trips available - just not with this particular group who must not have met the requirements to be the escorts.
if they grow up to hate the country that tok them in then that is a character flaw on their role model's behalf.

i don't agree with that.
their parents should play a huge role
in shaping their children's character.
they can either teach them to hate us
or explain why things happen.
