Investigators are hoping that new information will help solve the mystery of what happened to Madeleine McCann.
The then- three-year-old British girl disappeared six years ago while vacationing with her family in Portugal.
Scotland Yard is planning to release a computerized sketch of a possible person of interest in the case.
Former prosecutor Wendy Murphy joined America’s News Headquarters to discuss the development.
"I’m not buying it. I think this is more PR than anything," Murphy said. "I think this is all related to a civil suit now underway in Portugal."
The McCanns sued the former police chief for defamation because he wrote a tell-all book.
Alisyn pointed out that the McCanns claim the Portuguese police never took the case seriously

They were in Portugal so maybe different laws?
However, you would assume they were not placed in danger.....................safe in bed or porta cot. Parents 50m away... checks every half hour.
When sleeping at night, we don't check our children every half hour do we?
Babysitters do. But parents should be able to hear if their child wakes or is choking etc. If they can't hear, they should be checking regularly. I am talking about babies which is what these three children still were.

this babysitter checks them before going to bed......not every 30 minutes! my bedroom is at the opposite end of the house as are many main bedrooms.....hearing a child choke would be impossible.
do you check every 30 minutes?
babies????? no toddlers.

I am talking about other peoples' children, and I do check every half hour or more often. I think that is what a good babysitter should do, but probably because I know what might happen, I am more vigilant. The time frame in the incident that this thread is about was evening, when children have not settled into the heavy sleep of later. They are often restless at this time.
I realise they are technically toddlers, but in the time frame of childhood, they are still babies, and completely dependent on adults for their safety and wellbeing.

I would never leave a 3 yr (almost 4 ) old and two 2 yr olds alone in a building with the door open (unlocked)...if the door was unlocked ...no one need 'break-in' and the conficting 'window stories' to seemingly prove exit/entrance at various times look even more suss.
These are Drs with multiple letters after their names ...they did it most nights of their 'family holiday' aparently.
When asked if money was a problem (the nannies who come to rooms and babysit for 10 pounds an hour) ...it wasn't the money. They (drs with legal responsibilty to report such things as abuse and neglect) didn't think of that ,didn't think of child getting into medication, vomiting and choking, electricuting themselves ,burning themselves, wandering away , or to find them ..perhaps to help their crying sibling, a pool in between (drowning a possiblilty )
If this was a mystery movie all the inconsistencies and changes and things that don't fit and look suss...one would think they are too obvious and perhaps dismiss them .
regular checks ? where's the proof ?
The crime as far as portugal are concerned is unknown due to lack of more evidence
It has been shelved not closed .

on page The 384-page book, simply titled 'Madeleine' talks about a potential warning she had the day before her daughter disappeared.
The morning before Madeleine vanished, the toddler asked her mother: "Why didn't you come when Sean and I cried last night?"
At the time, McCann didn't think anything of it.
"Not for a moment did we think there might be some sinister explanation. But it is [now] my belief there was somebody either in or trying to get into the children's bedroom that night, and that is what disturbed them.
"So haunted have I been ever since by Madeleine's words that I've continued to blame myself for not sitting down and making completely certain there was no more information I could draw out of her."
Furthermore, she discovered a staff note on display in reception saying the McCanns 'were leaving our young children alone...and checking on them intermittently'.
The intention of the note was innocent - it was a receptionist explaining to staff why the couple wanted to reserve tables near to their apartment. However the information could have alerted a predator to the vulnerability of the McCann children.
Kate says of the abductor: "I think it was someone who knew our movements. I don't think someone was passing by chance and took a child."
On the night Madeleine went missing, Kate and her husband Gerry were so tired, they almost had dinner in their own apartment however decided it would be anti-social.
Instead, they dined with friends less than 100 metres away at the local Tapas restaurant in the hotel complex.
They chose not to use the babysitting service provided by the hotel as they felt so safe, they "didn't even think of it".

The meds issue was apparently when they returned to Portugal, I think her parents went too, as the house they rented was where the pics etc were taken.. as I recall but will look for the link... it was on here a few pages back.

The book makes it look so suspicious .Like a huge attempt to point to abduction over anything else that may happen. How many people think that their children only cry due to abduction ?
and how many would leave their children after their 3 yr old and 2 2 yr olds after they ask over the breakfast table why didn't you come when we cried last night ?
using the words 'we' thought we were OK .The children crying for them the night before didn't register as part of 'we' not being OK ?

I can't believe that after this happened they would not change their plans. My guess is that some parents who have always used nannies are not fully aware of the constant vigilance that is required in caring for very young children. Doctors included.
