"‘I drink green tea and out there a box of 80 green tea bags can cost £8."
Where was she shopping? 😮
The price comparison chart at the end was interesting but not really relevant without a wages comparison as well. This is out of date but gives a bit of an idea of the difference that puts prices into perspective.

The title should read: Not everyone likes Adelaide.
So why didn't they try Sydney or Perth? And I am amazed they were allowed to come with their (lack of) skills

What an odd story. What very strange people. What funny figures ... last time I was in the UK, the prices were incredibly high and the wages were higher than here. A couple of small fillet steaks were close to $40.00 ... would have been under $10 here.

Two weeks isn't long enough to make a big decision like that. How strange.?.
waves to EM back there

Be interesting tohow were covered under immigration rules to be able to live here.
The wife did marketing? and the OH was going to stay home with the daughter for awhile then look for work.
When we lived in NZ, we sold our first house to an English couple with one son. 6 weeks later, while driving past our old house a For Sale sign was up....they didn't like NZ and went back to the UK.
They arrived at the start of winter in the Sth Island of NZ, so not a great time to get out and about and check out your new surroundings.
I also knew an English couple who moved to NZ (they had family from UK living in NZ) lived there for about a year or so, didn't like it, moved back to England.. didn't like it there either. They thought things had changed for the worse in the UK since they had been away. The decided NZ was better after all, couldn't afford to move back there though.

katy - we went to UK in 2011, found the prices of good food quite reasonably priced compared to here.
The wages there for hospitality is around 6GBP an hour in Aust it is $15+, so that does make a difference.

6 years ago, we found the cost of living in the UK about the same as here...... except for meat. (not that we wanted it)
Everything else was on a par.
I can't understand anyone who wants to emigrate without first going for a holiday.

Reminds me of the old joke about the Pom that got off the plane, said "what a dump - for 2 bob I'd go home again" - someone gave him a pound and said take a few of your mates with you.
- hang on - let's think? No, better not.
