They might as well put the GST up instead.
It too mostly affects those who can afford it least.

It will affect everyone, won't it?
even public transport, plus the general supply chain of getting goods to places
and I'm with bella on those in rural. Hard enough already, takes a packed lunch to get to the corner store as it is, or the doctors etc. Some move top the rural areas as it is more affordab;le top be there, but if it brings it inline with the city living through covert expenses, then there will be an increase on moving back to the cities
Haven't the govs been trying to encourage more people to move out of the cities to make infrastructure to those places more viable?
Puzzling, this one.

Still don't agree with an increase in the mining tax though, niot whilst our economy as it is relies on the mining companies. Something like 18 of our top 25 exports, and we have nothing to replace that with, yet. so i think until we do, we need to keep the mining industry happy, cos if even the top 3 leave, that's 1/3 of total export revenue, something like 200 Million? (or it might have been billions, can't remember) That's a lot of money to risk losing, a lot of jobs, a lot of cash flow in the local economy.

on a slightly positive note, the big businesses such as mining will experience increased fuel costs too, won't they? and they would use an awful lot, I'd think.

I just hope that the government has some money to give to services, especially homelessness and food charities.
They are going to need funding desperately with this hit the poor budget! ...not that they don't already 😕
Haven't they pulled funding from such programs?

So we should accept being bribed and bullied by multi nationals that don't give a rats about Australia?
No, we should get a fair price for our resources and we should set the rules not have the rules set for us by vested interests.

no. they get a rebate . there's been no indication of any adjustment to that particular perk.
