Offensive number plate?

https://7news.com.au/travel/victoria-traffic/victorian-man-has-wepn-registration-plates-cancelled-by...

A Victorian man has had his personalised registration plates on his car cancelled after VicRoads deemed them offensive.

Peter Hansen from Portland has had the plates on his Torana for ten years without a problem, but they were suddenly recalled because they “reference violence”.

The plates spell out the word ‘weapon’ in four letters: ‘WEPN’.

The Torana has been a feature at dozens of legal drag races and is known among car lovers.

“I’ve been pulled over by the police to check out my vehicle and they’ve told me how nice of a car I’ve got, but there are never any hoon fines,” he said.

I didn't even know what WEPN meant thinking it was an acronym for something.

He seems to have a great car which he takes pride in and so he should.

I think this is just absurd.

I was friends with a psychiatrist who had a sports car with the number plate FORFUN. He was pressured by his profession to get rid of it because it was unbecoming and inappropriate. I think they all needed therapy.

Oh fgs........ your friend didn't need therapy but by the sound of it his colleagues   did.  Gd forbid that a psychiatrist should have fun.

Actually, I was referring to my friend's colleagues. He was great. He certainly knew how to live a fun life. He eventually changed his number plate to DSMIII, which was the name of the worldwide psychiatry bible at the time. I don't think they liked that either because it was too far the other way. He didn't care tho and totally ignored them.

Re: Offensive number plate?

He sounds exactly the type of psychiatrist I'd want to go to if needed.  (Sometimes I think it is needed lol ).  I like both his no plates.

Yes I knew you were referring to his colleagues,

Re: Offensive number plate?

I don't get why people need personalised number plates.

Apart from the ego stroker.

If you do something wrong, or are perceived to be doing something wrong, then you'll certainly be remembered a lot quicker than someone with a 'normal' plate number.

Some years ago my lady and I bought new Corolla's, one red and one blue. We were offered personalised number plates at a reduced price. A friend suggested we get plates with 000OOO and OOO000, just to bamboozle the cops. We were tempted but didn't have the nerve.

Re: Offensive number plate?

My Brock VK came to me with VK085. The model and year. I probably wouldn't have paid for them, but I am kicking myself for not cancelling the rego when it was stolen and then selling the plates.

I remember seeing a similar numberplate years ago.  I guess it all depends on how you pronounce it: KIKARS

A numberplate on an older car - it's a French word: MERDE.

And from many many years ago... Not offensive but appropriate for the driver.  I was told the car owner was a computer programmer.  The numberplate was ORAC.  Orac was the little clear boxy computer in the TV series Blake's 7.
