Old Chinwag Craft Board Block Swap 2007

Sometime in early 2007, the Craft Board quilters got together and organised a Block Swap. We had to design and prepare enough blocks to make a quilt for ourselves, provide the first block completed and send the package on to the other crafty people in the swap.
We each completed a block in everyone's set.
My quilt was for my grandsons' bedroom in my home. I set a theme of teddy bears and boy's toys.
Most of these quilts have been finished for some time....... but.... I could not make a decision on how to do mine until recently.
I learned so much in that year and can't thank everyone who was involved enough! My applique skills are much improved.

I have also sewn the labels of the blockmakers onto the back of the quilt, behind the relevant blocks.
I made mine into a quillow, a quilt that folds into a pillow, so one of the blocks is on the back of the quilt and when folded into it, becomes a pillow.
My 3 yo grandaughter looked at it and said "Gran, that is brilliant" and that is a good recommendation, so I have to thank everyone who was involved.

Good for you LTS. I was a late starter. When I was at school my sisters always did my sewing at home, and I fluked iut at school, worked really well until Form 4 (Year 10) I got sprung big time, teacher failed me, cheek of her, LOL

I got mixed up with the Craft girls (but, that's another story), eventually, with everybody's help, I decided to give a quilt a go.

The first thing I made was a placemat and coaster set that my friend Bobbie had pre cut for me, that was such fun.

For my first quilt, Karen's friend L, was a great help to me, she wrote the pattern, gave me pics, and was on the end of the phone when I made a mistake, so, my very first quilt was a winnber, and, I was hooked. I will never be that good, but, gee I love it. It keeps me sane (although sone would debate that)/

that's great, misslinda... it always is interesting to me how people get started in their craft/sewing interest, the stories behind it...
Yes, it's great to have a good outcome with a first project, especially something like a quilt, that many people would think to be too scary to try...

The finished dollies bed with dolly quilt pillow and Dora has a cuddly toy and a dressing gown just like her owner:)

Well I have pieced together the top of my table runner, it looks great, will put up a progress pic.

And my new 'foot' was fantastic - used the ¼in seam foot. Very good...

A question for quilty types, please....

With my table runner, I have done the quilting using my fantastic walking foot, it looks great.
Now, I've cut the binding strips 2½inches wide & sewn them together, as per the magazine instructions.

What seam allowance do I use to stitch the binding to the piece?
Is it correct that I turn over the binding & slip-stitch it in line with the stitching line?

I'm working on a practice piece, but I just can't get my corners right. I'm doing the mitre-ing thing, but when I turn the binding to the back, doesn't matter what I try, I just can't get the corners to sit right.

loveto....youtube is your friend!! seriously, I watched it 4 times and finally got it, pausing the youtube all the time. I am not good at instructions but visuals are good!
I do a 1/2" seam or a 1/4 inch depending on the look I want. Use the walking foot too. 🙂
