Old Crones & Snapping Turtles

It seems there is a need for an independent 'as titled' thread.

Can we share, say what we would like to say, think what we want to think, even be nice to each other (optional)

(Without religion or politics) (please)(pretty please).

Think I come under the Old Crone bit.

Im surpried to read you think that.

I guess I was too busy listening to her speak of her life (in less than 15 mins) to notice.

And the 'old crones and snapping turtles' sorority is a sham if it celebrates women judging women

Not interested in that.

That seems more like an old bi*ches sorority to me.-

Regardless of her achievements, I acknowledged her "Life", but the manner in which she gave the Talk caused my comment.  I believe in Equality, and I would have said the same had it been a man spruiking in the same vein.

Perhaps if the TED talk had it's own thread rather than being implanted here, a more conducive response may have been forthcoming.  In fact, I thought the post was off topic for this thread.

Thanks for your reply.

Its quite revealing to write in red 'Regardless of her achievements'..no man has achieved what she did.

That bears thinking about.

The posting of the link to the ted talk was to encourage others to hear about another persons, a womans- achievements.

I fail to see why your response would be any different in regards to where its posted.

But, if you have a problem with it being posted here- writing that its 'off topic' I suggest you report it.

This is what the OP wrote...

I will continue to celebrate and support women achievements- not because they are nice, or not smug, or not supercilious- but because they achieve.

"I guess I was too busy listening to her speak of her life (in less than 15 mins) to notice. "

It was a video.  And.......it's not only listening to a person, it's watching facial expressions and body movement, tone of voice, etc. that is part of the "Sell".

By the way, I have enjoyed many a  TED talk in the past and I'm sure I will in the future.  In fact, only this morning I watched the Dare to Disagree with Margaret Heffernan.  She sold me.Smiley Very Happy

It's a good talk and it beats me how anyone can honestly describe it as supercilious.  What's she supposed to do? Give a talk full of made up lies?  It's because of her truth (experience) that she was invited to give a TED talk.

Thanks gleee for your opinion.

I dont understand why how she spoke about her achievements- and I didnt find the tone, or her manner smug or supercilious either, is worth noting at all.

My point of focus is her achievements. Arent they remarkable enough??
