Oprah Swiss Racism Row

Good morning all Smiley Happy

A Swiss luxury boutique denied any wrongdoing Friday after US chat show queen Oprah Winfrey claimed she had been the subject of racism when a shop assistant allegedly refused to show her an expensive handbag.

Oprah's widely publicised claim comes amid a row over racism in Switzerland, where a move to ban asylum seekers from some public facilities including swimming pools and gyms has sparked a storm of protest.

Oprah Swiss Racism Row

She did not directly describe the incident as racist, but recounted it after telling King of a "racist moment" in New York years ago when she and her hairdresser were refused entry to a luxury store which had been robbed previously by two black people.

Switzerland takes in more asylum seekers than any other European country as a proportion of total population -- four or five times more than France, Italy or Germany.

and we think we've got it bad Smiley Sad

But over the past three decades, Swiss voters have regularly backed tougher asylum laws, most recently in a plebiscite in June that removed desertion from the military as grounds for receiving a safe haven.

sounds like a good move

Re: Oprah Swiss Racism Row

The severe backlash against illegal immigrants & the soft immigration laws have made some countries in Europe a nightmare for the original inhabitants. France. Nederlands, Spain, Switzerland & the UK have massive social problems due to this phenomenom.

They are realising that it gt totally out of control under soft Socialist regimes &now they are paying a very high price for social unrest & a massive immigrant underclass who are now filled with resentment.

This has been a grave concern of mine for the last 6 years when Labor allowed oner 50.000 illegals to sail in & we are seeing very early signs of the huge mistake that is.

Anybody been to America?? The black racism is appalling against the whites & everybody hates the Jews & Latinos. They have a problem of racism that will never go away as long as the racist card is played.

Re: Oprah Swiss Racism Row

I guess it was a nightmare for the original inhabitants of Australia when the boats sailed in too.

Not sure why a shop assistant would refuse to sell a bag to someone....but I doubt  Oprah is lying.

Re: Oprah Swiss Racism Row

disertion doesn't necessarily make them bad or dangerous and perhaps if we look at history closer to home  we can understand that it does put their lives at risk

NZAC tragedies revealed after 80 years

REPORTER: It's only now that the tragic story of what happened to many of the men who did 'crack' can be told. It's a story so sensitive that the British originally ordered their files on this dirty secret to be sealed for a hundred years. Now they and our war historians agree the whole sorry story should be told.

ASHLEY EKINS, HISTORIAN: The public should know. These things happened. There is no longer the sensitivity. We only have, I think, less than 50 First World War diggers still alive today and I think most of them would agree with me that the time has come for most of these people, for what happened to be known.

REPORTER: Each of the names listed here [Australian War Memorial, Canberra] is an Australian who died in the First World War. It's sobering to think of the courage, the sacrifice and the suffering that must lie behind each of the 60,000 names listed here. Like many youngsters reading about the First World War, I was fascinated with the idea that these people bravely - willingly - went over the top when often they must have known they were going to their deaths. Why didn't they just refuse to fight?

Well as you'll see today, hundreds of them did. In fact there are two Australians killed in World War One whose names aren't on this memorial. They were executed - shot, at dawn - and today we'll tell you that story, if only to ensure that such things never happen again.

Oprah was shopping on her own and I guess was minus her usual tv makeup.  The shop assistant might not have realised it was

Oprah.
