I'm surprised there's no thread already about this. Is it because it's not an Australian case?

Me too. They have yet to make their impact statements. Apparently he has a new girlfriend and is planning to begin training and resume his career.

the payments seem bizarre, but what this story doesn't mention is that Reeva's family were financially dependant on her and Oscar also tried to give them a large lump sum payment which they refused to accept calling it 'blood money"

The more things change ... the Oscar Pistorius case looks like something we've seen before
Peter Fitzsimons
Yin and yang. Twenty years ago, OJ Simpson was acquitted of the murder of his former partner, the beautiful blonde, Nicole Brown Simpson. On Thursday, Oscar Pistorius was acquitted of the murder of his partner, the beautiful blonde, Reeva Steenkamp. Remarkably similar cases, conducted in a minefield of racial politics, with remarkably similar results. Justice eventually caught up with Simpson in other ways, as he is now serving a 33-year term in prison for a botched armed robbery in Las Vegas.

Sentencing in about 20 minutes. Watching the comments, it looks like he will get house arrest (in a mansion). Some punishment.

5 years jail. Not a lot to pay for Reeva's life - but I hope it brings some comfort to her family.

Can only hope he does it hard. Real hard!!

Probably means only 2 years.
