These are the correct rates:

Those who received their pension this week would have received a portion of the rise.

ph - a couple gets a total of $27 odd each which includes the clean energy allowance.

Yes, Sandy you are right:-)

Who knows what I read on my c/link page.

I'm not sure if you understood what I wrote, Nevyn ... there are many jobs that are NOT available to single parents.  If you live in a rural area ... as I do ... there are even fewer jobs available.

I'm trying to make general points, not personal ones ...

I don't think I've ever met a single parent who didn't want to work ... but the barriers to employment that is economically sustainable are usually too great.

Having kids contributes to the economy ... I once read a great quote by another single mother ... she said something like "I'm raising my children to be good little taxpayers when they are older".

well, perhaps they could do the lawn mowing, baby sitting and dog walking? It would save us oldies from having to do it...you could take the kids along to help - no need for child care -  ask polksalad .. she has contacts in that arena.;-)

Funny you should say that, I used to take my children with me to babysitting jobs, and they helped when I mowed lawns for others.  As a single parent, I did whatever work I could get. There were no child care centres back then.

I do have contacts.  Now I am very grateful for the pension  increase, it means I can do less part-time work now.

Not sure you understood my point. Not personal at all.

Lived in a rural community, single parent, got a low paying job because it fitted in with kids.

Bella, the DSP is (or was) equivalent to the AP ... but different for when only one partner has a disability ... or when only one partner is over 65.
