Patriotism

Is unconditional patriotism a desirable attribute or not?

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Re: Patriotism

Unconditional, probably not, it would bring about a loss of realism I think.

Re: Patriotism

What constraints should be applied to patriotism? And while we are at is what constraints should be applied to loyalty

No I don't mean to apply constraints.

I just think one eyed-ness is a bit unhealthy.

Maybe I am not on the same train as you, and have misinterpreted

What I would like to know is at what point would a person revoke their patriotism or loyaly.

Not if it interferes with good judgement, common sense, and right or wrong.

Re: Patriotism

Patriotism is, generally speaking, cultural attachment to one's homeland or devotion to one's country, although interpretations of the term vary with context, geography and political ideology. It is a set of concepts closely related to those of nationalism.

Re: Patriotism

Some countries demand unconditional patriotism, and others have brainwashed the population into not questioning decisions otherwise it would be deemed unpatriotic

Re: Patriotism

I guess you could probably brainwash people into unconditional patriotism, but while you might demand it of them you certainly could not enforce that demand because patriotism is an emotion not a set of rules.
