People smuggling question

When people purchase their place in the boat, what is the arrangement? Is it that you will be brought to Australia to be processed as a refugee at the appropriate place or that you will be brought to Australia and landed on an isolated bit of coastland where you will be secretly integrated as an illegal immigrant? Or something else? Are the people in the centres those who were caught by the coast watch and are there a lot who arrive undetected?
I am so ignorant about this.

People smuggling question

Nobody is actually trying to land in Australia, they just want to get to Australian territorial waters and apply for asylum.  The only boat that actually got to Australia did it by mistake, they were heading to NZ, and we were in the way.  They pulled up into a harbour and waited for the authorities to come.  If they wanted to land undetected they could have gone few miles up or down the coast.  People do not want to come here undetected; it would be very hard to survive, they could not get a job without tax number, so unless they have millionaire relatives to support them it would be useless.

People smuggling question

Thank you.

I must have been watching too many BBC shows with illegals working with no papers and being ripped off because I imagined that is what happened here too.

People smuggling question

Looking further, this article (which may be based in hysteria) seems to imply that there are people living illegally in Australia?

People smuggling question

em  - people fly into Australia and overstay their  visa (if they have one), and work for cash.. so there are illegals here, working for low pay rates.

In Sydney, there have been several restaraunts owners busted for underpaying illegal immigrants. Businesses get their relatives over supposedly for a holiday but they overstay and work of cash in the business.

When people fly in to Aust and don't appear to have enough funds to live on for a short holidary or any relatives they are visiting.. they can be detected by border control and denied entry to the country.

People smuggling question

This is doing my head in.

Looking here:
'Unauthorised' arrivals enter Australia without a valid visa. Australia detains 'unauthorised' arrivals while their refugee applications are decided. Those found to be refugees according to Australian migration law and who pass medical and security tests are granted a temporary protection visa (TPV). Unauthorised arrivals who are found not to be refugees under Australian migration law remain in detention until they are removed from the country.
How do 'unauthorised' arrivals enter Australia?

'Unauthorised' arrivals enter Australia by sea and air. In recent years, most asylum seekers have come to Australia by sea.

Boat arrivals

Since 1989, 13,593 people came to Australia by boat without approval of the Australian Government.

In 2001-02, 1,277 people arrived in Australia by boat without a visa.
In 2003-04, 53 people arrived in Australia by boat without a visa. They were taken to Christmas Island and processed by DIMIA.

When they say 'enter Australia' does that mean Australian waters?

Was Scott Morrison a comedian (Mr Bean style) before he joined parliament?

I thought I was watching a new Dad's Army.
