Anything out there that annoys you?
I'll share one of my pet hates, I struck it just last night... again.
You know those recipe sites you can look up, where people leave a comment and star rating for a recipe?
I like the sites, I use them a lot and I like to have a look at the rating/comments too, to assess if a recipe is worth trying. They can be really useful.
But the comments I hate are the ones that give 5 stars and say what a fantastic recipe it is then sneakily say at the bottom, 'I just added these other 14 ingredients and halved the amount of whatever and it was perfect.'
Grr, that's not the same recipe then, is it!!
It reminds me more of this:

Articles with titles that make you think the article will be interesting, but if you click on the title the article is really boring.

People who abandon their pets.

Wow, everyone else has had deep thoughts on this one.
I am guilty of a few of the above from time to time.
I don't carry the behaviours to excess though or I try not to.
The phone thing can drive me nuts, in that I don't mind people taking a quick call if we are out and I don't mind people using their phones sometimes but I wish they would inject some common sense into things.
I've written about it before-where someone (often a stranger who is planning to buy something from you) will send a text message to say 'I have arrived' instead of ringing the front door bell. If they have arrived, they are going to have to get out at some stage to look at whatever they want to buy, I should not be expected to run out to their car. I should not be expected to be on my phone every second either. This expectation I will see a message immediately is a pain.
As for grammar and spelling, those mistakes can annoy slightly but I am pretty well able to look past them.
The purpose of writing is to convey a message. If our mistakes convey the wrong messsage or a confusing message, then that's a bad mistake. If the message is still pretty well immediately understandable, then at least the writer has achieved the main purpose.
I think sometimes we forget just how far we've come. This time 150-200 years ago, most of our ancestors couldn't read or write at all or were the first generation that could. Even as late as the second world war, whole groups of Americans from some more remote areas had to be given a crash course in reading/writing before they could join up as they were totally illiterate. I think the apostrophe may eventually die out.
Things that have annoyed me lately (mild annoyances)
-the Coles promotion with kiddy cards again. I'm over stuff for kids. Bring back the knives and saucepans or other useful things, not cardboard junk that will just litter the place in the future.
-the sneaky way supermarkets are changing almost every check out to self-service and the way 90% of them now are card only. Heaven help anyone who has cash.
-the cafe type shops that serve a meal or coffee but will not take cash at all. If you have cash, you can't be served. I'm sure the day is coming where cash will be phased out but it isn't here yet and last I looked, it was legal tender. Someone with a $5 or $10 note should be able to buy a cup of coffee if they wish.
-roadworks that have been going on all year. If you live in the outer sth east suburbs of Melb, I need say no more. The disruption is just off the graph with some 3 lane freeways down to one lane in peak hours etc
Why wasn't all this done during our main lockdown period of 2020-2021? The planning was all in place, they deliberately delayed till elections were closer.

I'm hearing you about the cash thing. The kiosk at our local hospital has been card only since Covid. Apparently cash is going to kill you, even now that we know the risk of getting covid from money is low.
A few weeks ago I was there at the kisok and a quite elderly lady, probably in her 80's, ordered some coffees, some sandwiches and a few other bits. When she went to pay, sorry, card only. She didn't have a card. She's never owned a card. She gestured to her husband that was sitting at a table. Basically implying they couldn't have what they ordered. I paid for them with my card. It really upset me. It was around $16, it was worth it to see them smile. The lady hugged me.
Turns out they had a loved one who was dying. Having to travel into town from the hospital wasn't an option for food. The hospital is out of town. It made it even more worth it.

How safe is it to pay by card anyway?
The card does not come out of the wallet by itself. You touch the card, the card touches the EFTPOS terminal, then the next customer touches the terminal with his/her card etc...
Last year or so I had bought some milk at a local shop and saw they charged 30 cents/transaction for paying by card. Not much, I know, but still more than 10%, when usually the charge is about 1%.
So I said I will pay cash (it is and was possible), but I noticed another person in the shop looked at me with am expression of concern, possibly disdain...

s&d, that was a lovely thing to do. ๐ค
I agree about the cash as well. I do have a card, but like to use cash for smaller purchases, which is probably a hangover from the old days, when most businesses didn't accept cards for purchases under $10.
Some of my pet hates are:
People titling themselves "influencers" - I'm not on social media, but they seem to be all over the news sites and TV at time.
Excessive lip filler and botox - it looks so fake (and to me, not at all attractive) and everyone looks the same.
A lack of courtesy in everyday life.
The emphasis on being happy at work and changing careers if you're not happy. Most people I've known in my life have had a "job", not a "career", and are generally happy to be earning enough to live on, even if they really dislike what they're doing. Surely it would be worse for your mental health not to have enough to pay the mortgate/rent and feed yourself and your family than to keep doing a job you're not really passionate about.
"Cancel culture" and much of the political correctness that abounds these days.

I hate everything mentione, so far, although I am guilty of saying 'my bad' so hang me.
I also hate my pet. She's an 18ยฝ y.o cat, and has been trying to kill me for most of that time.

Labelling of a meat substitute as โplant-based meat.โ Itโs not meat; donโt package it up as though it is! I donโt mind eating vegetarian dishes a few times a week, and I do not mind creating meatless versions of some of my favourite recipes, but I wonโt call it a plant-based beef mince moussaka or plant-based meatball or plant-based sausage sizzling hot dog. Itโs a vegetable moussaka or mushroom-and-lentil Bulette or polpette, or vegetable sausage/croquette.
Iโm not really sure why I donโt like the โplant-based meatโ monikerโฆ but it is inherently irritating.

I think it's for people who don't want to really give up meat - maybe forced to, by a partner.
It's ridiculous really and sounds vile

I saw a photo of a food pack of mashed potatoes (Yes, you read right)
The label said 'Plant based potatoes'.
It may have been an American product, I'm not sure.
So glad no real potatoes were killed in the production of that item!! ๐คฃ
