Malaysia Airlines says one of its planes has gone missing on the way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board.
A statement from the airline says flight MH370 lost contact with air traffic controllers at 2:40am local time, just over two hours into the flight.
The plane, a Boeing 777-200, left Kuala Lumpur at 12:41am on Saturday, and had been due to arrive in Beijing at 6:30am local time.
The company says the plane was carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members.
The airline says it is contacting the next-of-kin of all passengers and crew, which includes people of 13 different nationalities.
In a statement on the airline's website, group chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said the airline was working with authorities to locate the aircraft.
"Focus of the airline is to work with the emergency responders and authorities and mobilise its full support," the statement said.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected passengers and crew and their family members."
The airline says it will provide regular updates on its website.
The ABC understand Malaysia Airlines will hold a press conference on the incident shortly.

I have often written P007 that you do not research, but mainly C&P material that you do not understand. So having written :
to monman who quite directly states the following, with absolutely NO SCIENCE OR EVIDENCE:
"....terrible aviation accident...."
and your proof that this is/was an 'accident' monman?
Produce where I have ever written "terrible aviation accident" P007 because like most of your contributions it is unresearched nonsense, and for once not even a C&P from another nut.
I actually have used, when addressing this topic, these terms:
"This event is a tragic incident"
"this terrible aviation incident."
"I do hope that after this tragic incident"
"such a tragic event"
"a tragic incident such as this"
So as you definitively assert that I have "quite directly stated" "....terrible aviation accident...." prove it.
Because if you can be wrong about such a simple matter, how could we expect you to have any authority apropos aviation or associated matters, of which you have no expertise/knowledge whatsoever.

to manmon.
So, we're agreed then that this was no accident.

P007 having made a definitive statement about myself prove it, rather than avoiding it.

Prove what you allege P007.

Are you quite sure it couldn't have been an alien abduction?

to monman.
The 'disappearing' of Flight MH370 and all on board was not an accident.
We are all agreed on this point, yes.

This is what is known as a non sequitur. (it doesn't follow)
Not stating categorically that something WAS an accident, does not inply that it COULD NOT HAVE BEEN an accident.
It simply means "Without further evidence, I am not prepared to make assumptions either way"

Malaysia MH370: Who has means & motive to take a plane full of people?
The initial possibility that the airliner ‘crashed into the sea and disappeared’ is fading away. The 'Bermuda Triangle' scenario of bewildering disappearances will not wash in the modern world......Airliners in trouble simply do not fly on for five hours and then plunge into the sea.

"It has been a while and so not quite good memory left, but was Korean flight 007 that got shot down by Russia? Look at the flight and kids can tell that 007 suppose to be sacrifice just to test the soviet reaction to air space violation. A passenger jet full of human mean nothing for the political will of another nation. Money shut all mouths off and was forgotten. Malaysia flight could serve similar political purpose but this time in more modern tech and so would be hard to find the answer ."

I have recently, personally asked six, unrelated young people of both sexes (aged 19 yrs to 22 yrs) for their opinion about the 'disappearing' of and circumstances of our missing flight MH370 and they expressed that in their opinion it was a military effort testing new weaponry.

Chinese Report Ship Searching for Missing Jet Detects Underwater Ping
China’s official news agency Xinhua reported that a Chinese patrol ship equipped to pick up black box signals detected a pulse signal on Saturday in the southern Indian Ocean. It had not been determined whether the signal detected by the Chinese ship, the Haizun 01, was related to the missing plane.
After so many false alarms, let's hope this proves to be what we've all been waitng for.
