Plant ID PLEASE?

plant 4.jpgDoes anyone know what plant this is please?   the leaves are abt 5cm long and maybe 2cm wide,  silver/green on one side, and purple on the other.  I know it's fairly common but want to know its name and what sort of care it needs.

Re: Plant ID PLEASE?

I did get rid of it from my front garden by pulling it out very carefully and making sure I do not to drop the tiniest bit.  I then covered the whole area with thick layer of newspaper and put some pine bark over it, it never came back in that spot, but appeared in the back corner of the garden couple of years later.

Not wanting to send it live to the tip I placed it in a black plastic bag and left it in the sun for the whole summer; carefully opening it so any moisture would evaporate, and then closing it again so more water would not get in.  By the end of the summer it still looked pretty much alive.

Re: Plant ID PLEASE?

You should have put some water in the bag and kept it tightly sealed....the plant would have cooked in the hot water.

That is the thing, it never properly dried out.  I did not open it every hot day, so it had plenty of opportunity to boil.

Re: Plant ID PLEASE?

It would not dry out....that is the point....it should have been left to go mushy then it would not grow.

Wandering Dew does not go dry and brittle like most dead plants.....it remains soft and pliable which is why it has to go mushy before it dies.

Re: Plant ID PLEASE?

Lyndal, no point in trying to be PC about the name.

It's Wandering Jew - not Dew
