DD and I watched an Australian documentary on SBS last night.
It was mainly focussed on Asian woman wanting to, in their words, appear less Asian. Most choose eyelid and nose surgery. But what really had me in tears was a young girl whose parents told her she was not beautiful and at 17 made her undergo eye, nose and chin surgery at the age of 17. She was comfortable with her appearance but went ahead with the surgery to please her Asian parents. After the surgery her father told her she was only a 5/10 before now she was more acceptable.
It also highlighted the fact African American women like Beyonce were photoshopped to appear lighter skinned in magazines.
Why is 'white and caucasian' deemed as the beauty ideal?

That's sad.

I saw the show too Cat and it was really sad. And that poor girl who had her eyelids done and nose and chin all because her parents thought she'd look better. Like how sad is it when even mum and dad don't like the way you look 😞

Yes, I saw something recently. It was an interview with a plastic surgeon and his patients. Its called East Asian blepharoplasty.
my daughter has many Asian friends and she introduced me to K-POP. (Not bad) If you look at some of the performers, the desire to have caucasian appearance can be evident. perhaps a good career move??

One of my sons has lived in Japan for 3 years and I have always joked with him that if he gets a girlfriend to make sure her teeth are nice and straight as I have noticed many females have crooked teeth she would cost him a fortune when they returned to Australia. He told me that many girls and women have their teeth made crooked as they judge it as beautiful.
