Please find another time for Protest

If you're fighting to protect people's lives, why not start by not risking the innocent lives of everyone elses. Find another time. I will have more respect for you. I was just saying the other day: Thank God that Australians aren't as crazy as Americans and we have at least some common sense not to choose this time to protest.

I think the marches were an inappropriate response, given we have all just sent over 2 months in lockdown to try to lower the spread of this virus. If we have an upsurge in cases, we'll be going back to that isolation level again and the economy will really suffer.

That isn't to say the death of Floyd wasn't a disgrace, but we're not going to bring him back by potentially wrecking our economy & making people here lose even more jobs. And if people think extending the virus period won't affect black people here, they have rocks in their head. Aboriginal communities are probably more at risk if the virus takes hold there. And a weak economy is likely to see them worse off financially.

What i found ironic is oin the news it mentioned that one man at a protest had a sign that said black/white-all lives matter. He was jeered by the crowd and handcuffed and led away by police. I'd like to know why saying that 'all lives matter' is considered evil by these protesters. My guess is they in fact don't believe all lives matter, which is why they jeered. When they hear of white deaths eg the police officer shot at point blank range in the back of the head, his life doesn't matter, it isn't worth a mention, because he was white & a cop.

I'm well aware black people here and in US have had a hard road, but looting shops or setting fire to cars etc won't help the justice system improve and campaigning only for black lives is lopsided too. I'd have more respect for protesters if they would stop a moment and reflect that for a truly just society, all lives have to matter.

Bet they think killer cops are a bunch of bleepers as well.

Oh dear we have so many black people dead  but we better put off the protest !!!!!!!!!

Stop killer cops and the racist cops and heck there would be no protest

Protest away. Just choose a better time where it doesn't compromise everyone else. I am going to be super annoyed if we have a 2nd wave because of inconsiderate people.

"Stop priests from raping young boys and heck there would be no protest"  Oh, are we not playing say something obvious.

This discussion about the risks of coronavirus from a protest gathering would carry so much more weight if it had also happened last week following the antivax and G5 marches.

Excuse my ignorance, why are they presenting George Floyd as some sort of a hero. I get the policeman was corrupt and deserving of punishment and floyd didn't deserve to die. Couldn't the protestors have chosen someone more deserving?

It''s not that George Floyd is being touted as some kind of hero, it''s just that he is the latest victim of exteme police brutality and has become the symbol of the outcry against this type of brutality. Many victims of other crimes have been the symbol of an issue whether it's a rape victim, victim of gross corruption, cancer victim etc.. Obviously Floyd's profile has been elevated. The  killings of African Americans at the hands of police is one of America's greatest  evil shames.  Another great shame is when a non law enforcement person who is of another ethnicity is insufficiently punished for killing an African American.

Let's look at the killing of George Floyd. Here we have a man with his knee on the neck of a handcuffed human being. The cop has his weight bearing down on the neck of a shackled man. This goes deep into the subconcious of many people. This could be seen as a modern-day lynching! When "Negros"  ((as th ey were called back in the day or something worse)) were the victims lynching . SSo when an African American was lynched the rope was usually around his neck. Where was cop  Derek Chauvin's knee?

Lynching is a hanging by an angry mob, and was done to people of all colours, not exclusively to blacks.

But the blacks were treated abominably by their slave-masters back in the day, and I can understand their deep-rooted anger.

You're right. Let's start with Trump & McConnell and move on to Morrison, Dutton & Hanson...for starters.

So if they died you wouldn't care? ๐Ÿ˜ž
