I'm pretty sure that this new format uses LOTS of new code that controls how everything works and I'm assuming that they either had a problem with the code that was supposed to make old threads float upon receipt of a new post, or, they just hadn't figured out exactly how to write that code yet for the new format.
In the UK, I'm not seeing any pictures under the thread titles on page one like I see here... I assumed that they removed that feature, but it did occur to me that maybe there just aren't any threads on their page one that contain a picture in the post that first started the thread.
