Princess Beatrice Got Married

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi have released two new photos from their royal wedding.

The Queen's granddaughter got married in secret at The Royal Chapel of All Saints, Windsor on Friday, after postponing the original ceremony, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Beatrice paid tribute to the Queen by wearing the same tiara that Her Majesty wore to her royal wedding to Prince Philip in 1947.

Her wedding dress - a vintage Norman Hartnell design - also belonged to the Queen. It was worn by the monarch tothe state opening of parliament in 1967

Just to set the record straight, as it seems to have been misinterpreted -  I am not objecting to a sleeve at all.

I was commenting on the 'puffy' sleeves.  As had been pointed out by Dom, a much more elegant (IMO) sleeve would have been a long one.

Not sleeves that made her look like a 12 yo - she is not a young bride, she's 31 yo

My comment was not directed at you per se.

I used to make my own clothes - including adapting existing commercial patterns - and here's my reasons why I think the sleeves are 'puffy'....and why it was a good idea.

If the sleeves had been a standard 'set in' armhole shape in a dress with a wide shoulder top instead of straps long sleeves would have worked very well, though the added embroidered band might have to have been dropped as 'cuffs' would not have looked OK.

However the sleeves, as they are attached to an odd panel at the straps, are unusual.  Making the sleeves puffy reduced the odd look of the sleeve shape in general, and adding the embroidered band sympathetically tied this alteration well into the original design.

As for looking 12 years old, quite aside from Princess Beatrice's figure, the fashions of the 1960s (especially gathered waistline with petticoats under dresses - and I remember them well) had by today's standards a young style even for women in their 20s and older.  Think Mad Men or The Astronauts TV shows....some of the fashions the women wore were rather similar to Barbie's vintage outfits...and Barbie was 'a teenage fashion model'. 🙂

I think Princess Beatrice's wedding dress suited her well and the alterations to the original dress were spot on.....and I imagine easy to remove afterwards.
